WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Work Hours: Typically 40 per week (shift work) and rotating on call requirements with some overtime expected during callouts.
Regular Overtime: Scheduled – shift coverage & callouts
Tools, Equipment, Machines, Work Aids and Other Special Materials Required by Job: Typical laboratory instrumentation to assist in process control, pumps, motors and their operation, various chemicals and handling, hand and power tools, instrumentation, and safe work practices with all related equipment, computer data entry
Job Description: The Operations & Maintenance II position involves any and all tasks required to operate and maintain a water or wastewater treatment facility, remote grinder pumps, and pump stations including but not limited to lawn mowing, grounds keeping, snow shoveling, permit required confined space entries, small spill clean-up, good housekeeping, routine maintenance, inspections and repair of various equipment, sample collecting, lab testing, observation of equipment and process operations, use of ladders and stairs, pump station inspections, and collection system maintenance, housekeeping, custodial, and chemical handling, and other work as required. Attain class III CT Deep wastewater certification within two years of hiring. Teamwork, safety culture, work excellence, and Plant performance is a requirement.
Operational Component of Position:
* Diagnoses basic water and waste water operational problems and takes corrective action; communicates status, changes, and report abnormalities in operating areas.
* Follows process control procedures for assigned areas; verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor.
* Inspects and troubleshoots equipment using tools and gauges of the trade; obtains necessary parts through established procedures.
* Maintains an adequate laboratory supply inventory; and maintains and evaluates daily laboratory records and validation procedures.
* Monitors and observes operating conditions; records observations and data in area shift log.
* Ability to follow direction and work well with others in close proximities.
* Operates equipment manually and through instrument panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units in an assigned area.
* Performs chemical and biological analyses including the operation and maintenance of complex laboratory equipment.
* Performs field tests (chemical, physical, and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units or alter unit processes.
* Performs routine lab tests, and routine instrument calibration for portable meters.
* Research, sets up, and carries out testing programs as assigned.
* Samples wastewater, sludge, and gases according to schedule; and services automatic samplers.
* Participates in the development of written standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
* Trains peers and subordinates as requested.
Maintenance Component of Position:
* Operates vehicles and equipment for facility operational and maintenance purposes.
* Performs basic troubleshooting of equipment, recommends solutions and, fills out work orders.
* Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
* Performs limited to moderately complex preventive maintenance of equipment such as tightening loose fittings, checking/replenishing fluids and lubricating equipment; installing and repairing pumps, replacing lines or hoses and advises supervisors of need for advanced maintenance
* Performs routine lubrication of equipment and motors, and replaces oil reserves.
* Rigging and hoisting of equipment
* Water meter reading and valve / hydrant exercising
* Other pertinent maintenance activities
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Education and Experience Capabilities:
* Requires a high school diploma or equivalent required
* Valid CT Driver's License, CDL preferred
* CT Operation License
* Mechanical and Electrical Trade is a plus
* College Science is a plus
