Job description
Internet of things is growing rapidly and take place in our daily life; smart homes, health, intelligent system for dependent people etc…
Radio frequency integrated circuits are at the hearth of this technological area. In such competitive environment, silicon area and energy consumption reduction is a requirement. On the other hand, the increasing number of these connected objects in a very narrow frequency band drives the evolution of Bluetooth or Sub-Giga Hertz transmission standards and leads up to an increase of radio performances. High sensitivities and high immunity jammers in radio frequency reception chain becomes the key points and are closely related to architecture and ADC ‘s SNR.
Work will firstly focus on the analyze of all the constraints, in terms of surface area, consumption and performance, linked to the radio reception chain in our low energy and sub-gigahertz Bluetooth applications. After studying circuits and publications on ADC architectures and their impact on reception chain performances, the main objectives of the thesis work will be the following:
- Description of an iterative method allowing to quickly identify the type of ADC, hybrid structure, the smallest and the least consuming which guarantees the performances.
- Choice of the type and structure of the ADC, proposal and evaluation of innovative solutions
- Development of the precise multi-level model of the ADC with optimization of the parameters.
- Writing of the thesis report.
The advanced positioning of the work should lead us to obtain results beyond the state of the art and allow the candidate to publish his results in high-level conferences.
This thesis is proposed in collaboration with Université de Lille, Institute of Electronics, Microeletronics and Nanotechnology (IEMN, UMR CNRS 8520) under the supervision of Dr. Andreas Kaiser, Director of Research at CNRS
