Job Description
The role is to provide System Engineering support in relation to ESA in-house activities for the Secure Connectivity Low LEO pre-operational development up to and including in-orbit testing.
You will perform system engineering activities in the following areas:
· Definition of Low LEO mission requirements and the related system architecture.
· Ground Segment Engineering for Low LEO
· Satellite and Constellation Engineering for Low LEO
· User Segment Engineering for Low LEO
· Support to security Engineering for Low LEO
· Communication Engineering for Low LEO
· Preparation of the procurement technical and programmatic specifications
· Technical evaluation on related proposals resulting from the procurement activities related to Low LEO so that contracts are launched.
· Follow the Low LEO activities once kicked-off, ensuring coherency at system level with the IRIS2 system.
· Follow up of the technical reviews for Low LEO
· Support the coordination activities with EC and industrial consortium to ensure coherent developments and successful services implementation.
Activities may include:
· Requirements engineering and consolidation, Functional and physical architecture definition, Design trade-off analysis, Interface definition and follow-up, Verification and validation planning, Technical schedule and risk assessment
Industrial Milestone Reviews
· The Contractor shall support ESA in the review of industrial contract technical milestones related to Low-LEO, including but not limited to: Design key points during consolidation phase, System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Qualification Reviews (QR), In-Orbit Validation Review (IOVR), Service Declaration (SD),
· This support shall include: Technical assessment of industrial deliverables, Preparation of review comments, Participation in review meetings and collocations, Technical discussions with industry to support resolution of review items.
Qualifications
· Master’s Degree in System Engineering, Telecommunication or similar
· Strong proven experience with system engineering for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) missions
· Ability to define mission requirements and system architecture for space systems
· User segment engineering experience (user terminals, communication interfaces)
· Communications engineering expertise, including RF systems and link budgets
· Knowledge of ground segment engineering (mission control, TT&C, ground stations)
· Security engineering knowledge relevant to secure satellite communications
· Experience preparing technical and programmatic specifications for procurements, and perform technical evaluation of industrial proposals
· Proficiency in requirements engineering, traceability, and consolidation
· Experience producing engineering models, including MBSE
· Familiarity with coordinating multi‑stakeholder technical activities (industry, agencies, EC)
· Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
