Summer Internship - Purchasing

Job description

Our 2017 Summer Internship Program is designed for professional development with hands-on assignments. Summer Interns will find a challenging and rewarding business experience in a variety of areas all while acquiring an overview of our organization.

Interns will work closely with mentors and managers on special projects, and attend valuable workshops throughout the duration of the program.

This summer program gives you an opportunity for exposure to a variety of Solvay's Business Units and Service Functions while gaining experience working in a corporate environment.

Desired profile

Our North American raw materials purchasing group buys over $400 m a year of chemicals that are shipped to one of our production sites where we react these to produce finished products that are sold to the Agriculture, Personal Care and

Coatings industries. The purchasing team works closely with manufacturing, supply chain, sales and marketing, product management and R&D. This role will provide an opportunity to see and understand what these different functions do in

addition to seeing how purchasing can affect the overall profitability of an organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

·  Some college level chemistry
·  Engineering a plus
·  Excellent Communication/Interpersonal skills
·  Problem solving skills important
·  Business Acumen or Orientation
·  Self starter / self motivated

Tasks/Projects for Intern:

·  Analyze raw material spend data (both regional and global) to identify potential savings opportunities
·  Work with purchasing team on preparation and evaluation of RFQs (request for bids)
·  Contact suppliers related to audit and self-assessment information
·  Research market for potential suppliers of single sourced raw materials
·  Interact and work with raw material purchasing team on various tasks as assigned
·  Assist in driving working capital initiative to improve organization cash flow
