Job Overview and Responsibilities

The Research Analyst is responsible for providing analytical support to Solvay Specialty Polymers R&D
and manufacturing operations. The applicant will be expected to perform a variety of routine and
complex analytical procedures to analyze polymers and composite materials by various testing
techniques, including but not limited to capillary rheology, melt flow index, solution viscosity, and Karl
Fischer titration. The Research Analyst will also be responsible for developing new analytical methods,
operating and maintaining testing equipment, and ensuring the generation of quality data.
• Safely perform a variety of analytical procedures, including handling hot objects or hazardous
chemicals. Maintain a safe work environment for self and others
• Perform rheology testing techniques such as capillary rheology, melt flow rate, and solution
• Report and interpret test results, report data into a LIMS system
• Communicate analytical results and interpretation with other analysts, scientists, engineers, and
manufacturing personnel
• Demonstrate strong computer skills with the ability to collect, organize, and interpret data
• Understand quality system requirements, such as ISO 17025 and/or ISO 9001. Strict following of
ASTM and ISO testing standards
• Applying statistical techniques to monitor laboratory testing performance and other duties as
• Activities include supporting quality control testing and maintaining accurate records and
• Provide technical support to other Solvay facilities
• Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and/or coordinate
maintenance through equipment vendors
• Ability to write and follow laboratory SOPs
• Ability to work independently and creatively problem solve 

Education and Experience

B.S. Degree in Polymer Science, Material Science, Chemistry, or related field
• Relevant experience in polymer characterization is a plus


Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment
• Comfortable with physically demanding work and routine analysis
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• High level of safety awareness and commitment
• Knowledge of analytical lab equipment operation and maintenance
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, perform manual tasks required for daily operations, including standing
and repetitively lifting for extended periods of time
• Proficient in interpretation of data collected from materials characterization techniques, such as
thermal and rheological properties
• Ability to work overtime as needed
• Skilled with LIMS, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
