Job Overview and Responsibilities:

This role supports the Midland, Texas facility process and production engineering as called for by the Midland Facility Manager.  This role may provide process or production engineering support for other Solvay sites as needed. This role will be responsible for development and oversight of the Midland lean manufacturing system (Manufacturing Excellence), helping to develop engineering scope and design documentation for capital projects, and development and maintenance of the Midland Reliability System.  As called upon, you’ll be asked to provide hands on technical expertise in various area’s including control installations/upgrades and new tank or process equipment installations at the Midland, Texas facility and possibly other Solvay sites in adherence with Solvay Safety and Engineering Standards.   

This role will be expected to perform process engineering duties under the direction of a Senior Engineer, as called upon, including P&ID and process flow diagram design, interlock and control development, design calculations to support hazard reviews, and equipment procurement, for example. 

In addition, there may be other assignments requested as needed.  This role will be heavily involved with small project management, including start-up support.  This could expand to training development on general automation awareness or use of equipment, for example.  Willingness to develop and present interactive training presentations may be expected to help improve the local plant skillsets.  

Provide field follow-up and start-up support.  This could range from a combination of activities including hands-on testing, training, documentation of assigned pre-startup safety review items, and development of long-term preventive maintenance checklists to support facility’s Mechanical Integrity program for electrical / instrumentation on new process.

•Must be able to comply with all Solvay safety rules and company policies
•Hold contractors and fellow employees accountable for safety compliance
•Be able to research and understand local EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) regulations
•Lead General Safe Work Permit assignments
•Participate in process hazard reviews, pre startup safety reviews, and management of change and provide expertise in the field of health and safety
•Assist with documentation to ensure EHS compliance
•Work with EHS team to develop training programs
•Continually assess current processes and operations to ensure local, federal, and corporate regulations are met 
•Develop documentation to support Hazard Analysis
•Assure that procedures/processes are being followed as well as documented.  This includes all life critical procedures for any contractors onsite
•Must be able to travel to sites as needed, training classes, design meetings and process hazard analysis reviews
•Act as the site leader role model. Participate in employee engagement activities and be a champion for safety and compliance
•Support the site’s accounting functions. Ensure expense reports, purchase orders and other plant required documentation is completed as needed
•Work with operations staff to help develop and maintain operating procedures
•Optimize Supply Chain Processes 
•Work with Mechanical Integrity Contractor and the Area Reliability Manager to bring the Plant Mechanical Integrity documentation to desired state
•Perform various other duties assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.

Education and Experience:

•BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field 
•CO-OP or 1-2 years Chemical Industry experience required

•In depth knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office software
•US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card)
