Job description

1.   CONTEXT

Sodeico Development recruits for a client an Accountant. The client is an African company, located in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, DRC, Liberia and Togo. The company builds metro fiber and Wi-Fi networks to help local providers connect more people to the Internet and each other. 

The accountant is expected to support the business on all finance related and operational matters and will be a critical support to the Finance team. He/Her will provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports.




2.    ORGANIZATIONAL POSITION

The accountant will be under the responsibility of his manager.




3.TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES

 The position holder will assume the following tasks and responsibilities:

Financial accounting and Reporting:

  Ensuring all financial transactions are recorded in line with applicable GAAP and company policy;
Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents;
Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statements, and other reports;
Put together narratives on month's performance compared to prior month and budget; YTD performance verus YTD budget and prior year;
Ensures comprehensive reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts including: Cash reconciliation, Payables ageing (incl vendor credit balances), Receivables including  ( customer credit balances), Inventory ageing, PPE movements, Staff accounts (travel advances, due from employees etc);
Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends;
Secures financial information by completing database backups.

Managing Tax affairs and Audits

Ensure all tax returns submitted on time as regulated and minimum tax payable;
Timely submission of annual audited year end packs;  Clean audit reports and favourable
internal audit reports;
Internal and External Audits are carried out effectively at the least possible audit cost.

Managing Treasury matters

Ensuring optimal level of cash at bank maintained;
Monitor and control the flow of cash receipts and disbursements.

Supplier and Inventory management

Vendor setup process and payment management;
Monitor and track all inbound and outbound inventory;
Raising of purchase order for vendors;
Point of contact on vendor issues;
Prepares payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements;
Timely dispatch of vendor withholding tax certificates;
Follow-up on vendor payments with OASV;

CAPEX Management

CAPEX expenditures monitoring, ensure adequate recording and reporting;
Annual asset management processes such as verification.

Billing and Receivables Management

Review aging reports and advise on matching of payments to invoices;
Liaise with OASV to ensure correct application of payments, withholding, credits, etc;
Update withholding tax trix.

Desired profile

4.  REQUIRED SKILLS

Accounting and Finance: Mastery of accounting principles, IFRS standards, accounting tools, and financial software;
Financial Analysis: Ability to analyze financial statements, identify trends, and provide insightful recommendations;
Reporting and Communication: Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate financial reports and effectively communicate results to stakeholders;
Treasury Management: Ability to manage cash flow, forecast funding needs, and optimize resource utilization;
Internal Control and Risk Management: Ability to identify, assess, and manage financial risks and implement effective internal controls;
Taxation: Knowledge of tax laws and the company's tax obligations, and ability to optimize the company's tax position.

5.    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

BSc/BA in Accounting/finance and must be a qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA);
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in accounting or financial management;
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as accountant in Big Four finance firm or in a multinational.



6.   LANGUAGES

Mastery of English
Mastery of French



7.    INFORMATIQUE

Mastery of IT tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
Excellent command of accounting or financial software.
