Mission

Description of the Business Line or Department

The team is dedicated to advising, structuring, negotiating, arranging, underwriting and distributing debt products in the upstream oil and gas sector.
Given the complexity of risk profiles and the funding requirements of our clients, a good understanding of other products is also key including hedging (risk mitigant) and capital markets (alternative funding sources).
Underlying assets financed are global with the exception of North America (covered out of Houston and Calgary). Oil and gas is a strategic activity in many countries in the world and a sound understanding of local business environments is key.

The team comprises of thirteen professionals including nine front officers, two petroleum engineers, one intern and one assistant. It is a young, dynamic and international team (six nationalities). It is an English speaking environment; however, an additional language would be useful. The client base and projects are international (in line with the oil and gas industry).

Summary of the key purposes of the role

• To support senior team members in credit analysis with particular focus on financial modelling
• To support the deal team in internal processes such as profitability calculations, KYC, ratings etc.
• To carry out research and analysis on existing and prospective clients.

Summary of responsibilities

• Modelling the petroleum economics of upstream oil and gas assets.
• Interpreting contractual terms from project contracts (production sharing agreements, concession contracts, construction contracts, offtake and leasing contracts) to provide a model reflecting the contractual framework of the project.
• Modelling debt and sensitivities from term sheets, loan documents and information memorandums.
• Assist senior team members in preparing credit files addressing the key lending decision criteria for proposed loans.
• Research and prepare material for marketing and presentations.
• Assist in running internal process (KYC, profitability calculations, etc.) to manage risk and profitability
• Support management for internal monitoring and reporting
• Identify potential client and deal opportunities.

• Technical knowledge of the industry: helpful but not essential
• Finance knowledge: helpful but not essential
• Excel skills for financial modelling essential
• Microsoft office e.g. PowerPoint, WORD
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Basic understanding of project finance/reserve based finance
• Basic understanding of corporate finance
• Basic understanding of oil and gas macroeconomics (oil price evolution, oil and gas field development worldwide, country risk – emerging markets)
• Analytical skills and initiative essential in fast-paced environment

Work Experience

• Internship in the oil and gas industry, or;
• Internship in project finance/RBF/structured finance at another financial institution

Languages

• Fluent English
• Any other language is useful.

Education

• Graduate from a leading Engineering or Business School.
