Summary:
Reports to the manager, Core Purchasing with the primary responsibility of procuring for Smith & Nephew Inc., items of acceptable quality, delivered at the required time and at the lowest total cost coordinate these activities so as to optimize the inventory, manpower, materials, parts, and services to maintain high levels of customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Procures all items for the Orthopaedic group and North America headquarters
Maintains valid, competitive quotations on all new and existing items
Monitors and expedites all purchase order to achieve optimum delivery of all items
Negotiates concerning price, quality, delivery, and other contractual agreements pertinent to items purchased by the Orthopaedic purchasing group
Researches and develops new vendors and maintains a mutually satisfying relationship with current and prospective supplies.
Insures that all purchase agreements and negotiations are in accordance with established purchasing policies and procedures
Develops annual orders/contracts
Reviews and maintains purchasing data base integrity
Develops programs and policies. Plans and assists in the implementation of approved systems.
Coordinates the timely resolution of rejected purchased items/materials
Approves and verifies new material and changes within the EDCN process before items are issued to stock
Insures availability of purchased materials and supplies necessary to support the production plan.
Prepares management reports such as vendor performance, past due order, order/lines processed, discount savings.
Performs quarterly audits of buyer/planners purchasing functions

Assists in establishing operation objectives and department goals
Performs special assignments as required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years Purchasing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPM certification preferred. NAPM membership preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using the whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
