Catheter Mechanical Design Engineer, Staff  

 

Siemens is the market leader for the 2D and 3D ICE catheters in EP and Interventional Cardiology space. The business is seeking an individual to join an engineering design team responsible for developing ICE Catheters.  

 

Responsibilities: 

 

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic environment as part of a R&D team developing ultrasound catheter and associated assembly and tooling. Responsibilities include: 

 

· 
Technical responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting technical projects within the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical apparatus, components, and processes.

· 
Conduct independent technical investigations involving the application of a wide variety of mechanical engineering principles in the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications and requirements.

· 
Prepare design specifications, analyses and recommendations for presentation and approval.

· 
Design key components and subassembly for acoustic array and catheter assembly including but not limited to flex circuit, miniature interconnection, acoustic components, electrical connector, injection molded plastics, and catheter body / shaft, etc.

· 
Design tooling, jigs and fixtures for precision assembly work

· 
Write Design Verification Plans, Protocols, and Reports, and to assist with the execution of the verification testing

· 
Design for packaging for miniature electronic devices

· 
Design for manufacturability

· 
New vendor selection and qualification for materials and processes

· 
Optimize processes for manufacturing; transfer tooling and processes to manufacturing personnel

· 
Create and update drawings and prepare material for ECO release 

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience :  

· 
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering decipline; MS preferred

· 
8+ years experience in mechanical engineering or related field

· 
Proven ability to create mechanical models in 3D CAD (CREO and AutoCAD preferred) for complex medical products and tools

· 
Experience in the medical device industry developing Class III Medical Devices highly preferred.

· 
Experience in designing catheter component / assembly, electro mechanical packaging, flex circuit, and tooling preferred

· 
Working knowledge of plastics, extrusion process and parts,injection molded, and over mold parts prefered

· 
Experience in developing electromechanical devices, and usability / human factor desired

· 
Experience writing verification plans, protocols, conducting verification testing, and compiling reports preferred.

· 
Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills

· 
Knowledge of Six Sigma preferred

· 
Domestic and international travel required ( 5-10%)
