Job description



As a Project Engineer you will be required to undertake project engineering activities to ensure projects are to the required quality and safety standards and to project timescales. The Project Engineer will be expected to manage engineering work packages on projects under the direction of the Project Engineering Manager.

What are my responsibilities?

·  Manage the delivery of Network work packages on railway signalling projects including interfacing with internal teams, key stakeholders and external parties
·  Act as the primary project representative for managing all Network related activities
·  Manage the implementation of new product revisions within the project and liaise with the R&D team to understand risk and potential mitigations
·  Act as a primary point of contact for faults related to electronic systems within the project. Interface with the development teams to support resolution and closeout of issues
·  Maintain continuous communication with sponsors, project managers and other third parties (where required), ensuring a uniform understanding of current requirements and progress
·  Work hands on to support the wider projects requirement for both implementation of and technical fault finding of electronic equipment, such as Windows based PC’s, CISCO Network devices and bespoke electronic systems
·  The Project Engineer - Networks may be required to undertake the role of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer for Networks Installation / Test
·  Support the Project Manager and management team to monitor the progress of works and ensure that the development, design, construction, testing and financial targets are met and effect remedial action where required
·  Ensure that the technical standards are maintained in all aspects of project work, in order that safe and successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved
·  Participate in and monitor the planning and progress of works in relation to timeline and budget and ensure that the development, design, construction and testing requirements are met and effect remedial action when required
·  Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Company procedures including development of the project Safety Plan
·  Review and assess the engineering aspects of project changes
·  Perform duties as directed by senior management from time to time
What do I need to qualify for this job? 

·  Knowledge of or experience in delivering to meet fixed commissioning deadlines (essential)
·  Knowledge of or experience in working to industry quality and safety standards (essential)
·  Willingness to work on-site nationally (essential)
·  Ability to analyse and resolve complex technical problems (essential)
·  Strong communication skills with ability to communicate complex technical detail to parties of varying technical ability (essential)
·  Knowledge of network fundamentals including TCP/IP layers & switching/routing (essential)
·  Experience of working with CISCO command line interface (essential). 
·  Knowledge of provisioning and fault-finding Computer hardware and associated components (essential)
·  Knowledge of deploying and fault-finding Computer firmware, operating systems & software packages (essential)
·  Knowledge of legacy communication protocols such as RS232, RS422 etc.
·  Knowledge of IT security principles & industry best practice
·  CISCO qualifications, CCENT/CCNA
·  Experience of Railway Engineering and Railway Signalling advantageous but not essential as training / mentorship will be provided
