We have an exciting opportunity for motivated and ambitious individuals to join our Healthcare Medical Equipment Service Apprenticeship Scheme, commencing September 2017. In conjunction with College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL), Siemens Healthineers offers a four year Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme which will give you the knowledge, qualifications and confidence you need to build a really successful career.

The position will involve dedicated training on your journey to becoming a skilled Medical Equipment Services Engineer in the Healthcare industry with excellent Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic diagnostic knowledge.

The successful candidate will join one of two of our existing hospital based MES departments located in Romford or Barnet. These departments are responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of a wide range of medical devices found within a hospital environment. You’ll provide vital technical service support to our customers working very closely with hospital staff and 3rd party suppliers.

You can be based at Queen’s Hospital, Romford or Barnet Hospital and will become a member of one of the existing on-site Siemens MES teams.

On completion of the apprenticeship and subject to a good training record, you’ll be offered a full-time position in Siemens Healthcare Ltd as a Medical Equipment Services Engineer with the opportunity of further education and product training.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

The right commitment and enthusiasm for a career in a leading edge engineering environment is critical. The following skills are required:

· Possess a strong commitment and enthusiasm to the role and the apprenticeship
· Strong interest in healthcare, engineering and technology
· Good level of computer literacy
· Care and attention to detail, adhering to all health and safety requirements
· GCSE's or equivalent at Grade C or above which must include Mathematics at Grade B, English Language and a Science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics).
· Level 2 in ICT is advantageous.
· If you have previously completed a BTEC qualification or equivalent in engineering you must list all individual units and grades if predicted or achieved within your CV or application.

Our Advanced Apprenticeship is for aspiring individuals who are keen to start building up work experience while progressing academically within a healthcare engineering environment. You will be required to work alongside employees of all levels therefore a flexible 'can do' approach is important - together with a disciplined approach to timekeeping and attendance. To complete the Healthcare Medical Equipment Service Apprenticeship programme you’ll need to achieve multiple qualifications which demand a high level of motivation and the commitment to study and complete work in your own time. You must be flexible with work placements, your timekeeping and attendance in the workplace. Of course there will be plenty of Siemens professionals on hand to steer you through and help you get there.

The Course

If you’re successful you’ll join one of two our existing hospital based MES departments located in Romford or Barnet. These busy but exciting departments are responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of a wide range of life saving medical devices found within a hospital environment. You’ll provide vital technical service support to our customers working very closely with hospital staff and 3rd party suppliers.

To begin with you’ll attend college and work towards achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. In addition, whilst working on the job you will be working towards a Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance-Electrical.

Year 1 will involve attendance at college (College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London) for the first 8 months followed by day release for the remainder of the first year. Year 2 will also combine day release as well as in-house assessment. The 3rd and 4th years will be assessed in house.

There will be opportunities to gain manufacturer training for a variety of medical equipment to enable you to perform first and second line maintenance work.

There are also progression routes from this apprenticeship onto higher technical certificates and official Siemens Engineer training qualifications.

What else do I need to know?

On completion of the apprenticeship, and subject to a good training record, this could lead to a full-time position in your chosen career. Throughout our business there are opportunities for progression within our Operational areas and in a variety of other functional disciplines.

Location - The successful apprentices will attend College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL), 73 Hertford Road, Enfield, Middlesex EN3 5HA.

The apprentice role is a site based position. In addition and as part of your development programme, you may be required to attend other Siemens sites across the Country on temporary short-term assignments as well as visit the Siemens Healthcare Ltd Headquarters in Frimley, Surrey.
