Are you interested in advancing the state-of-the-art regarding Cyber Defense for Industrial IoT?

Here's the right internship opportunity for You!

Join our Cybersecurity Research Group located in Princeton, NJ, for a 6-12-month full-time (40 hours/week) internship starting April 2020 and investigate new approaches for Cyber Defense in industrial environments.

Job Description

Cybersecurity is a key enabler for Digitalization in industry. Without security and trust, the benefits of interconnected industrial systems will not come as quickly and comprehensively as needed. A crucial element of providing and maintaining the security of industrial devices and the industrial environments where they live in is to be able to detect attacks and new threats against these environments quickly, to react in a fast and adequate way to contain potential attackers, and to remediate cyber security incidents. Hence, Siemens makes sure that our products support proper detection and incident response, and we support our customers to establish state-of-the-art cyber defense processes and tools.

Siemens Corporate Technology is running and continuously improving a Living Lab dedicated to Cyber Defense and Security Analytics. Here, we are looking for an intern interested to learn and support improving the lab towards a cyber test range, where attacks and defenses can be tested against Siemens products and solutions. The successful candidate will perform development and research tasks to extend and integrate existing tools and research results into our Living Lab tool chain. During this internship, you will experience the excitement and challenges of industrial research. An internship with Siemens Corporate Technology is a great opportunity for students to gain real world experience in a diverse work environment in the US.

Our close contact with all of our business units in Siemens provides the opportunity to contribute to and gain experience in real industrial applications.

Siemens Background

For nearly 170 years, pioneering technologies, and the business models developed from them, have been the foundation of Siemens' success. Our central research and development unit, Corporate Technology (CT) plays an important role in this. Together with its global network of experts, CT is a strategic partner to Siemens' operative units. It provides important services along the entire value chain – from research and development to production and quality assurance, as well as optimized business processes. The support provided to the businesses in their research and development activities is ideally balanced with CT's own future-oriented research. It plays a key role in achieving and maintaining leading competitive positions in the fields of electrification and automation while at the same time helping Siemens fully tap into the growth field of digitalization.

Our research team is in beautiful Princeton, NJ, a university town packed with exceptional international talent that provide a unique feel of this true cultural gem in the state. The town has plenty of activities to offer, but for those looking for more, at just about 1h drive we have NYC or Philadelphia! We have the best public schools in the country and all of the above glued together by a very active and welcoming community!

As Siemens' central Research & Development department, we embrace this community. Our core mission is to support our Siemens business units as a central knowledge hub for all cybersecurity capabilities globally. We research and develop new and innovative solutions, based on much-needed deep technical expertise, and our network with internal and external experts and academia. This allows us to invent new solutions and approaches and verify their feasibility in the “real world” together with the product development teams of our business units – creating a stimulating setup for quick innovation cycles and rapid prototyping.
