Job description

Siemens Traffic Solutions, has an extensive, innovative portfolio of products to assist traffic managers and local authorities to reduce congestion and keep traffic moving. The businesshas over 350 skilled installation and maintenance engineers, a fully equipped training facility and dedicated team with expertise in design. Our busy, 100 strong, Engineering Department is seeking students on summer placement to engage with us on exciting new developments in support of our company goals. We are engaged in all aspects of software, hardware and mechanical design and also supportour many and varied customers.

What are my responsibilities?

You will to assist with general Engineering tasks, dependent on your specialisation and interest. This may include activities such as:

· development of engineering tools (using C++, C#, SQL etc)
· assisting with mechanical design (3D CAD)
· process improvement activities (using SharePoint)
· working on innovation projects which could lead to future products

You will be working with engineers from within our team who will support and encourage you during your time with us.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

· You should be working towards a degree inEngineering, Science or IT related subject
· IT Literate – Microsoft Office
· Experienceof any of the following development languages or tools would be desirable:C, C++, C#,Java, SQL, SharePoint, CAD

What else do I need to know?

You should be able to demonstrate satisfactorytechnical knowledge and problem solving skills; you will be asked to assist in the solving of technical issues as part of a group or as an individual. You must be able to develop good working relationships inside the engineering department and have excellent communication skills. You will occasionally be required to make informal presentations to peers.
