Schneider Electric Substation Automation Solutions provide best-in-class protection, monitoring and control for energy distribution systems. This includes LV substations and EHV transmission grids. These high-quality and easy-to-use solutions comply with the latest industry standards and come with interoperability to bring value throughout the entire energy life cycle. Schneider Electric's Energy Automation business is sub-divided in three areas: Grid Automation Solutions (GAS), Automation Electronic Devices (AED) and Automation Control Systems (ACS).

Schneider Electric has a great opportunity for the right person to join our team as a Customer Project Technical Engineer based at our Chippenham Energy Application Centre (EAC)

Mission:

Located in Chippenham, Wilts, the EAC Solutions Delivery Team is responsible for the implementation of HV control and monitoring systems generally based around Schneider Electric's PACiS range of products. These systems are mostly IEC61850-based, however, other architectures/communications protocols including OPC-DA, Modbus TCP/IP, SNMP, etc. may need to be implemented in order to meet the customer's requirements.

As a Customer Project Technical Engineer working in the EAC Solutions Delivery Team you will report directly to the Operations Manager Engineered Solutions and will work closely with the Project Manager(s) responsible for the project(s) to which you are assigned.

The role will take in all aspects of the project life-cycle from assisting in the initial bid process, through design, implementation and factory acceptance testing; to site installation/commissioning, warranty support and ongoing system support.

In addition to liaising with other Schneider Electric business units, both within the UK and world-wide, you may need to communicate with customers and technical consultants on technical issues regarding project implementation and support services, as well as with external suppliers regarding technical issues with the integration of third party hardware and software.

Key responsibilities / activities:

Collaboration
Actively support Sales Engineers, product specialists, marketing and relevant Business Units to ensure timely response to customer queries and offer alternative options adding value.

Customer Service
Design and deliver professionally engineered solutions fully compliant to customer requirements whilst maximising profitability for Schneider Electric. Take full ownership of technical solution from the outset.

Quality/Governance
Establish excellence in our on-site engineering activities complying with all appropriate QHSE guidelines, and promotion of company products and services to support customers and generate incremental business opportunities for Schneider.

Problem Ownership

Manage the investigation and fix from point of origin through to final resolution.

Technical Support
Where appropriate, provide detailed technical first line support on a 24 hour rota basis.

Provide second line technical support, hardware and software fixes to selected contracts within pre-defined time scales during both warranty and post-warranty phases.

Provide technical consultancy and support to other engineers in the team.

Education:

Minimum HNC / Degree in relevant engineering discipline

Experience:

Experience in an appropriate engineering environment working on automation solutions.

Design of automation solutions, ideally for substation automation applications.

Experience of RTUs, ideally including Saitel DP and DR ranges and Micom C264.

Experience of Protection Relays (IEDs), ideally including SEPAM and Micom ranges including set up and commissioning. (Advantageous but not essential)

Experience in a customer facing role with excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills.

Experience of Microsoft Office range of applications, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, etc.

Ability to work under pressure.

A knowledge of the Schneider Customer Project Process (CPP) or a similar process is desirable.
