Position Profile Information:

Novartis is in the process of implementing a paradigm shift in biologics manufacturing processes, and this position offers the opportunity to join a team that is carrying out the operational implementation of the prototype pilot facility (Plant 0), which will lead to the creation of the first commercial GMP plant of its type. In this role, the candidate will perform biotechnological manufacturing operations with pilot scale or non-GMP full-scale equipment for timely delivery of drug substance (DS) and develop processes and procedures within a multifunctional team. Main procedures include:

•Preparation of cell culture inoculum in shake flask
•Expansion of cells in wave bioreactors
•High density perfusion bioreactor runs in large scale single-use bioreactors

General responsibilities:

•Meet quality, quantity and timelines in all assigned projects and tasks.
•Perform and document plant activities in collaboration with experienced team members, if necessary.
•Generate lab procedures, reports and/or instructions and/or SOP’s.
•Communicate and address problems (technical trouble-shooting activities).
•Keep record of and manage chemicals, intermediates, excipients and solvents within own area of responsibility.
•Collaborate with other team members to facilitate deliveries of DS.
•Support evaluation of new lab equipment.
•Contribute to maintenance of infrastructure/equipment.
•Actively participate in project teams/meetings/networks.
•Actively contributes to team goals.
•Work according to appropriate SOPs, DQP, GLP, QM, HSE, ISEC & Novartis Guidelines.
•Help coach and train more junior staff in GMP working principles.

Desired profile

Minimum requirements

•Minimum: Biology Laboratory Technician or equivalent. Preferred Bachelor in Biotechnology/Biochemical Engineering/Chemical Engineering.
•Working knowledge of German and English.
•Desirable: Minimum of 4 years experience as Biology Laboratory Technician (promotional pathway) or 2-4 years for Bachelor (preferred).
•Experience with single-use bioreactor systems
•Working experience in a GMP environment a must (ideally mammalian cell culture).
•Aseptic work techniques.
•Awareness for safe handling of biological hazards (BL1), chemicals, potentially hazardous materials and equipment.
•Good scientific and/or technical knowledge.
•Good knowledge of laboratory and/or technical tools and GDP.
•Adequate knowledge of software and computer tools. Basic presentation skills.
•Strong team working and collaboration skills.
