Novartis are seeking to recruit a junior-level lawyer to provide legal advice and support to the Novartis UK Oncology business, reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance for Oncology UK and Ireland. As a member of the wider UK Legal Team, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Legal Team members supporting the other business units and divisions at Novartis. The ideal candidate will be at the 1-3 years’ PQE level, although all applicants will be considered. This position will be based in Surrey, UK.

Job purpose:

The purpose of this role is to provide proactive, strategic, pragmatic and legal advice to associates at all levels in the Oncology franchise. The successful candidate will also draft and review all documents and will support the Head of Legal and Compliance Oncology UK and Country Legal Head of UK and Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage known legal and business risk within allocated areas of responsibility by. advising on legal risks and formulating strategies to achieve goals while protecting assets/reputation
• Providing strategic and operational guidance with the goal to support Novartis business interests
• Drafting, negotiating and settling agreements (eg services agreements, clinical trial agreements, IITs, supply and distribution agreements) and where appropriate liaising with the other members of the Legal function
• Managing and assisting in the management of litigation (eg contract disputes, product liability)
• Advising on all relevant laws and codes of practice in relation to activities and to participate in the approval procedures set down by relevant SOPs as required and advising on all legal areas affecting the product lifecycle, from pre-launch to loss of exclusivity
• Instructing and assisting in the management of external legal advisers where appropriate and necessary and assisting in the development and implementation of procedures for the management of compliance within business and to carry out a legal review of any compliance activities requiring legal approval pursuant to internal SOPs
• To act as a legal business partner by developing a close relationship with the business stakeholders to understand the business strategic needs and objectives; constructively support the right mind set to take business decisions; and help to raise the profile and image of Legal across the business
