General Description
Role: Legal Counsel Location: Chertsey, Surrey Salary: £55,000-£58,000 + £6,700 car allowance Start: 13th Feb 2018 Close: 14th March 2018 Purpose of the Role... To provide general commercial and contract related legal services to the Europe Office (i.e. its support functions as well as product teams) and the European subsidiaries, as well as to our Korean Headquarters as necessary. This role will work with and support the Deputy Head and Head of EO Legal & Compliance, as well as being responsible for the management / development of the relevant paralegal within the Team assigned to work on general commercial matters. Key Responsibilities... • Provision of prompt and detailed legal advice in relation to relevant legal questions and documentation, in particular: • Provision of advice to EO business divisions on commercial and regulatory matters (e.g. advertising/marketing related queries from the business; ad hoc IP and data protection queries; and procuring from and liaising with external counsel on projects where specialist input on e.g. insurance or other regulated areas is required). Knowledge of other legal areas such as dispute resolution, insolvency and mergers and acquisitions would be helpful. • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements for Europe Office teams (e.g. general terms and conditions; master service agreements and associated statements of work; non-disclosure agreements; sponsorship agreements; and end-user license agreements); • Management of requests from our HQ in Korea to provide a European law/UK view of a broad range of general commercial/regulatory matters and liaising with the European subsidiaries' local legal teams to facilitate their local law review, as well as collating and reviewing the responses and providing this information to HQ in an accessible format. • Assisting as necessary with reporting to the Europe Office Management Team through the provision to the Head and Deputy Head of EO Legal & Compliance of project updates and related content; • Proactively supporting European subsidiary legal teams with general commercial and contract related queries. • Researching new and relevant areas of law as they arise, in both the UK and Europe and presenting clear advice/concise summaries of the same to the Europe Office and its European subsidiaries.

Necessary Skills / Attributes
Key Competencies/Characteristics... Soft Skills: Candidates are expected to be patient, pragmatic, flexible, good communicators, detail focused, culturally aware/ sensitive and be able to explain legal issues in clear terms that are easily understood. They need to be able to work under their own initiative although the role is to function and be integrated within a small and close knit legal team. They need also to understand and be committed to working within an “in-house” legal environment. They need to have excellent drafting and negotiation skills. Finally, they need to be able to work/communicate with, influence and provide guidance to individuals at all levels of the organisation. Hard Skills: The role would suit candidates with 3 – 5 yrs PQE, although all candidates with relevant experience are invited to apply. To be successful in this role you ideally have: Strong academics and you will have trained at a top tier Law Firm or major provincial firm. This could be an overseas law firm. Candidates need to have strong experience in contract negotiation, as well as a strong overall grasp of general commercial matters; ideally the candidate would have experience of advising global consumer products brands. In-house experience is desirable, although not required.
