Senior Software Engineer, Developer Experience - Heroku

Heroku operates the world’s largest PaaS cloud, continuously delivering millions of apps with 6+ million container deployments, 5+ billion routing requests, and 10+ terabytes of application logs per day. Our vision is for developers to focus on their applications and leave operations to us.

The Developer Experience team enhances the platform to provide workflows and tools to help developers manage the entire application lifecycle, from development and testing to staging and production. We're responsible for features such as Pipelines, Review Apps, and Heroku CI.

We work as a small, widely-distributed team who are heartfelt about our users’ problems. We plan weekly, chat daily and work closely together. We are a group of members excited to work together on challenging problems that enhance our customers' development productivity.

Examples of recent work Developer Experience engineers have worked together on at Heroku:

- Delivering products to customers: leverage the existing APIs and infrastructure of the Heroku platform and extend them to automatically run our users' unit tests.
- Adding new features to existing products: Rework the Heroku CI API and orchestration layer to support running tests on multiple dynos, enabling parallel test run support.
- Stability and scaling improvements: planned, developed and executed a migration plan to enforce a stricter ownership model for both new and existing pipelines.
- Supporting customers: investigated and detected the cause for a customer report of multiple, concurrent automatic deployments, then developed and deployed a fix.

Profiles relevant to us would feature:

- 2+ years of full-time, industry experience working in a team environment.
- Proficiency developing software in Ruby
- Experience working with a front-end JavaScript framework (such as Ember, React, or Angular)
- Understanding of software development best practices, such as code review, unit and integration testing, continuous integration, continuous delivery, phased rollouts.
- Interest in or desire to learn the Go programming language.
- Willingness to learn new languages, frameworks, and skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with geographically distributed teams and people of various backgrounds.
