Job Purpose This position is responsible for estimating production costs, cost saving methods and the effects of product and process design changes on standard cost. Establishes standards in SAP by creating the BOM and Labor Routings rolling these into standard cost and releasing SKU’s into SAP. Maintains and improves the cost estimating system for the Albion plant. The incumbent’s primary function is to analyze and interpret operating information in order to assist in monitoring and implementing plant goals and objectives. Approximately 30-40% of the incumbent’s work is comprised of special projects. The average number of concurrent projects is four to five. Projects are normally assigned by the Controller, although the Senior Cost Accountant is expected to recommend and undertake self-initiated project work when he/she discovers an area meriting such attention. A typical project would be the design, implementation and maintenance of a new or improved management information system. The incumbent investigates current and foreseen needs, identifies sources and methods currently used to retrieve the information, develops a methodology to use in the new system and designs the overall system. Upon approval of the system, the incumbent may program the automated portions, or arrange to have them programmed, debug the system, write the documentation and train one or more staff accountants in its use. Examples of such projects in which the above steps would be followed are in analysis of particular facets of the plant’s financial structure, such as inventories, financial statements, accounts receivable and new facility justification. If required by the end result of the project, the incumbent may be requested to include a recommended path of action. The incumbent may also become involved in the LIFO (last-in, first-out) inventory reporting process. The Senior Cost Accountant operates from broad instruction and is expected to work with a minimum of supervision or direction. There is some contact between incumbent and the Plant Controller regarding progress and assistance in dealing with third parties. This position will be responsible estimating production costs, cost saving methods and the effects of product / process design changes on expenditures for management review, action and control. This position also sets up new SKUs for plant production, trials and samples. The Senior Cost Accountant reports to the Plant Controller. There are no subordinate positions reporting to the incumbent. However, while working on a specific project, it is possible that the Staff Accountant, Product Engineers and Quality Engineers would be assigned to assist the incumbent in collecting data or entering it into the computer system.
