Under the supervision of senior scientists, conduct a research project in the area of protein chemistry. This could include protein modification through processing, enzymatic or chemical addition. Determine impact of modification through functionality tests such as solubility, emulsification properties and gelling ability. Finally, test modified protein in application model system(s). Candidate would be responsible for assisting in the designing of experimental plan and timeline, conducting experiments and recording procedures, observations and results in a scientific manner. Candidate will have the opportunity to experience application-driven protein chemistry in an industrial setting with cross-functional exposure to process engineering, analytical sciences, and food application testing.
Candidates must be a currently enrolled junior, or senior students pursuing Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry or Food Science; OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a Masters or PhD in Biochemistry or Food Science.
Required Experience and Skills:
Candidates must have completed at least two years of studies toward bachelor’s degree by June 2020.
Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) weeks from June - August 2020.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Candidates should have significant interest in protein chemistry or food science
Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and laboratory experience and good lab practices (GLP’s).
Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
