The Summer @ Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. Additionally, we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization. We are seeking a talented intern, a highly collaborative individual who is passionate about revolutionary sequencing technology. The candidate will be introduced to the theory and analysis of the data from the new sequencing platform and will help with the progress from advanced proof of principle to an operational laboratory instrument. Drawing on experience in biochemistry, chemistry and/or materials science, the candidate will design and implement experiments on the sequencing machine and will help develop and analyze biochip surfaces, interfaces and processes.

This is a hands on position whose primary responsibilities include product feasibility testing and root cause analysis. The candidate will manipulate and present experimental results to answer various system questions. The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work well in a team.

Responsibilities Include:

·  Feasibility Testing
·  Data aggregation, analysis, and presentation
·  Managing laboratory supplies to ensure smooth and efficient workflow
·  Thinking independently, working collaboratively, and contributing to an active intellectual environment

Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.

Qualifications

· 
B.S./M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Bioengineering with 2 years related work experience

· 
Strong track record of development and testing with Python ● Large data set manipulation skills (JMP and/or R)

· 
Strong communication and technical presentation skills

· 
Excellent laboratory technique and attention to detail

· 
Experience pipetting solutions

· 
Familiarity with buffer chemistry and formulation

Program Requirements:

· 
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university during program calendar year 2019

· 
Completed at least 2 years of college/university to be eligible for the program.

· 
Must have a ≥3.0 GPA

· 
Minimum availability of 12 weeks (Required start on or before program Welcome Reception and end date on or after Summer End Poser Symposium).

· 
Previous experience in the job duties listed, either through course work or industry/academia

· 
Participation in student organizations and/or other leadership experience
