Clinical Pharmacology (ClinPharm) is a mission-critical department in gRED/ Development Sciences (DevSci) with accountability for the clinical pharmacology assessment of the entire gRED portfolio from early clinical, through all phases of clinical development up to post-approval support. As part of a dynamic organizational Roche environment and changing gRED portfolio, ClinPharm is continuously developing and transforming its organizational/ scientific strategy and culture to adapt to future evolving scientific and business needs. This process requires continuous monitoring of the internal landscape and emerging external industry trends within and beyond the life science industry, creating impactful relationships across the organization to leverage the full capabilities of the entire Roche organization, the evaluation and potential adaptation of innovative scientific and technical concepts, organizational approaches, and effective change management throughout ClinPharm and with key organizational stakeholders.

The Principal Business Manager/ Functional will be critical for the current and future success of ClinPharm by:

· 
Leading all organizational strategy and change management processes in close collaboration with the ClinPharm Leadership Team (CPLT) and key stakeholders in DevSci and beyond;

· 
Providing direction for internal and external strategic communications in disseminating clear and meaningful information to stakeholders;

· 
Managing departmental projects and key business processes within ClinPharm; and

· 
Providing business management support to ClinPharm scientific functions with 90+ scientific and managerial staff (FTE and contractors).

This role will be a standing member of CPLT and will ensure overall functional business continuity and support and drive the successful organizational implementation of transformational ClinPharm strategy initiatives (eg: Predictive Disease Modeling), while Senior departmental leaders will focus their limited bandwidth/ resources on the scientific portfolio oversight and day-to-day organizational leadership.

Responsibilities:

Accountability for leading all ClinPharm strategy initiatives and related change management and communications in close collaboration with CPLT and key stakeholders

· 
Continuous independent internal and external landscape assessment and monitoring of emerging external trends/ concepts relevant to ClinPharm's mission;

· 
Proactively identify strategic gaps and future opportunities considering internal and external perspectives and emerging technologies/ business trends to strengthen the internal strategy and create long-term impact and value to the ClinPharm organization;

· 
Define a dynamic transformational long-term strategic roadmap for CPLT endorsement and subsequent independent planning and leadership of multiple strategic initiatives towards successful implementation;

· 
Lead initiatives to develop business cases, perform specific deep-dive reviews, and analyses for CPLT that inform or enable high-level decision-making on operations, strategy, and business change/ process improvement initiatives;

· 
Partner with ClinPharm experts and external stakeholders during planning, execution, and implementation of strategic initiatives;

· 
Shape messaging and develop communications for internal and external stakeholders of ClinPharm;

· 
Promote an innovative organizational culture throughout the department, support exploration and scoping exercises/ workshops to generate transformational ideas, and mentor staff on aspects of strategic innovation;

· 
Create effective partnerships throughput the wider organization to integrate the ClinPharm strategy into wider DevSci/gRED strategy initiatives and develop/ lead strategic partnerships with other parts of the Roche enterprise to enable impactful cross-functional collaboration and synergies for ClinPharm;

Full accountability to provide high-quality functional business management support and lead operational activities, goals, and complex workstreams in ClinPharm:

· 
Partner closely with the VP ClinPharm, CPLT, and D-level leaders to enable ClinPharm and its groups to meet functional organizational goals, improve operational capabilities and drive, support or own various intra-departmental business initiatives or participate in cross-departmental workstreams as SPOC for ClinPharm;

· 
Independently lead CPLT-sponsored initiatives with little or no oversight and drive key ClinPharm business processes and process improvements;

· 
Be a proactive thought-partner and advisor to CPLT on critical business, organizational, and operational strategies and solutions;

· 
Understand the strategic priorities for ClinPharm based on a sound understanding of the organizational and scientific deliverables of the department while leading the detailed and timely execution of deliverables with a sense for excellence and urgency without appreciable direction;

· 
Provide project management expertise to CPLT and ClinPharm-sponsored cross-functional teams, including but not limited to annual goal setting, promotion and headcount planning, planning and facilitation of LT meetings and tracking of action items;

· 
Demonstrate creativity, independence, and initiative in issue and conflict resolution, independently balancing the needs of multiple competing priorities with internal customers from several ClinPharm groups;

· 
Effectively manage and influence multiple stakeholders simultaneously in a matrix and multi-dimensional environment;

· 
Partner effectively with other business management support functions (e.g. BM&C) and serve as functional SPOC on initiatives involving ClinPharm and multiple other stakeholders;

· 
Partner with the broader business support/ administrative team in ClinPharm and act as a mentor for staff on aspects of project management;

Requirements:

· 
Bachelor degree in a scientific or technical discipline with 12+ years relevant professional industry experience;

· 
Strong experience in initiating and leading organizational cross-functional initiatives, strategy and change management activities, and business management of a major functional unit (department);

· 
Prior experience in a scientific/ technical environment preferably pharmaceutical industry with a good understanding of clinical drug development functions desired;

· 
Sustained demonstration of ability to lead strategic planning, implementation, and change management for cross-functional teams and leadership teams preferable in a life-science environment;

· 
Sustained demonstration of ability to identify and facilitate/ lead complex business processes and process improvement projects;

· 
Ability to serve as a consultant to Senior Management on critical organizational or strategy topics;

· 
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and team facilitation skills to collaborate with key stakeholders and excellent verbal and written communication skills and good executive presence;

· 
Ability to effectively partner with Senior leaders in scientific/technical organizations and proven record to manage multiple stakeholders effectively;

· 
Proven ability to lead/ execute complex deliverables with a high level of independence and flexibility readily adapting to the organization's priorities;

· 
Business, project/ change management experience or additional supportive training required;

· 
MBA or business consulting background desired
