Sr. Instrumentation Supervisor

Provides maintenance oversight and management of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Oversees the accuracy of equipment data and maintenance work execution in the CMMS and CCMS systems. Provide maintenance oversight of vendor supported equipment, strive to increase lab equipment up time, monitor cost and ensure vendor reports are retained in the CMMS system. Develop enhanced advanced technical training programs to support evolving instruments, lab equipment functionality and technical features. Provide technical expertise and operational support for PTD, PT and gRed labs and support areas. Assist lab area leads, lab specialist, research techs and lab managers with technical support functions and technical information for new equipment and system installation or retrofits, including potential equipment purchases, and upgrades. Ensure timely and sustainable resolution of GMP, GxP and safety related observations.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

·  Responsible for operational, technical and compliance leadership within the SSF Site Operations FOM (Facilities Operations & Maintenance) organization.
·  Specific management responsibilities focus on providing leadership to Instrumentation team, overseeing and coordinating operations, leading projects, and building a culture of safety, quality, customer service, and innovation.
·  Responsible for overseeing a team of 6-8 Instrumentation Technicians providing laboratory support including calibrations, diagnostics, and maintenance of laboratory equipment for various groups within the Genentech organization.
·  Encourages and promotes a safety culture, reduce safety issues by means of work orders/ STARI reports and interaction with EHS, Security and business partners.
·  Provides personnel career development, coaching, and feedback, including quarterly performance management discussions and regular check-ins with each direct report.
·  Encourages a culture of innovation and enables continuous process improvement and cost savings projects.
·  Develops individual and group goals in alignment with departmental goals, objectives, priorities, and sets clear performance expectations.
·  Develops technical training programs and initiatives to enable and expand in-house technical expertise.
·  Provides strategic and daily direction to the Instrumentation team.
·  Provide assistance with identification of critical spare parts, Bill of Materials, Task List Bill of Materials and creation of detail job plans.
·  Identify and implement process and equipment improvements through new procedures or revise existing processes in support of a proactive Preventive Maintenance program.
·  Partner with Reliability Engineering to evaluate lab equipment maintenance performance effectiveness. Provides remediation recommendations to minimize equipment downtime.
·  Establish and support performance metrics, reliability metrics and KPIs for areas of responsibility. Proactively escalate metrics data that demonstrates impact to lab equipment and lab systems performance.
·  Oversees on-time and timely review and completion of vendor technical report documentation.
·  Manage change control process for qualified systems in Trackwise.
·  Ensures operation complies with GMP, GxP and safety regulations and procedures.
·  Evaluate GMP and GxP lab deviations and respond to discrepancy records requests to ensure on-time completion and closure.
·  Participate in internal and external regulatory health authority audits and serve as the audit representative for the work performed by the Instrumentation team.
·  Provide leadership on compliance risks and develop comprehensive corrective and preventive actions.
·  Proficient at identifying equipment and systems malfunctions.
·  Oversees work order on-time completion.
·  Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of safety-related incidents and present summary report.
·  Actively engages customers to ensure direct lines of communication.
·  Ensures on-time scheduling of maintenance in alignment with customer needs.
·  Partner closely with customers on best practices and builds strong communication and collaboration.
·  Make recommendations to management of budget and department operations.
·  Develop appropriate workflows, business processes and procedures where gaps in quality or safety compliance exist.
·  Provide relevant performance metrics in alignment with internal and customer requirements.

Requirements:

·  BS / BA in Electronics, Engineering, or related science or one of the following:
·  AA/AS Degree in Electronics, Engineering, or related science with 5+ years' experience as an instrument or electronic technician.
·  Completion of an Instrumentation or Electronics Engineering (2-year) curriculum at a technical school with 5+ years' experience as an instrument or electronics technician.
·  5+ years of leadership/supervisory experience in a Pharmaceutical, Biotech or similar corporate environment with a proven performance record. Demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, experience leading in a performance based, customer focused operational organization. Ability to lead teams through business critical problem solving and change.
·  5+ years' experience working in an environment that applies Good Laboratory, Clinical, Documentation and Manufacturing Practices (GxP).
·  5+ years of relevant supervision and work experience in a health authority regulated environment and GMP labs.
·  5+ years of relevant experience working as a technician such as a Metrology, instrumentation or electronics technician.
·  Candidate must possess the technical skills and analytical skills to understand the science behind the work performed and the equipment maintained to review calibration, PM and repair documentation.
·  Must have experience working within and with various corporate based computerized platforms including SAP, BMRAM, Conerstone, Trackwise, SAP, and Microsoft Office suite.
·  Safety focused, detailed understanding of safety regulations and working standards.
·  Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
·  Excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills.
·  Proven abilities to work effectively and efficiently in customer focused cross-functional teams.
