Job description

·  Job facts

At Roche, we believe it's urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients' lives and we are fearless in both decision and action. And we believe that good business means a better world.

That is why we come to work every single day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigour, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

Who we are:

The Immunology Incubator is an innovative interface between Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) and the next generation of academic leaders. High potential, early-mid career investigators and postdocs with an Immunology background are embedded within pRED to conduct exploratory research that advances disease understanding and uncovers novel therapeutic targets.

pRED has an opening for an Immunology Incubator Postdoc Fellow within the Immunology Department located in Basel, Switzerland. We are seeking an independent and highly motivated researcher for our Postdoc position to advance understanding of the mechanisms underlying the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Specifically, the research project will aim at investigating lung myeloid cell functional diversity and niche instruction by structural cells, primarily (but not only) in animal models of COPD.

What your tasks will be:

·
Drive the in-house implementation of the disease induction in a well-known mouse COPD model

·
Utilize single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to define the transcriptional signatures of myeloid and structural cell populations isolated from the mouse model for further hypothesis generation.

·
Perform detailed immune phenotyping of the cell (sub)populations of interest using multi-color flow and mass cytometry.

·
Carry out ex vivo studies in primary immune cells and structural cells to further mechanistic understanding.

·
Form close collaborative relationships with other scientists within the Immunology Incubator, Immunology group and technical teams in other functions.

Who you are:

You're someone who wants to influence your own development. You're looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.

Furthermore, you have obtained a Ph.D. no longer than four years ago in Cellular and Molecular Immunology and have performed experiments using in vivo models of lung diseases.

Having several of the following skills will further boost your application:

·
You have a profound understanding of the lung innate immune system and are eager to identify underlying mechanisms that will drive next-generation therapeutics.

·
You have experience of the state-of-the-art single cell RNA sequencing techniques, ideally from lung tissue.

·
You have a track record of hands-on experience with animal handling and procedures.

·
You have experience with flow and/or mass cytometry.

·
Knowledge of immunohistochemistry and other tissue staining techniques is a plus.

·
You possess good knowledge in independently planning and executing mechanistic studies using in vivo and/or ex vivo lung disease models.

·
Your excellent English skills, written and spoken, complete your profile.

If you are proud of contributing and feel you have the dedication to teamwork and innovation that we are seeking, then Roche is the organization for you. Every role at Roche plays a part in making a difference to patients' lives. If you want to work in a hardworking team, make your mark & improve lives, apply now!

Please include a detailed CV with a publication list, and a cover letter describing your interests and your expected date of availability.

Roche embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are dedicated to building a team that represents a range of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.

Roche is an equal opportunity employer.
