Job description



·  Job facts

Responsibilities:

·  Develops and supports RUO tools, provides data management solutions, and analyzes data.
·  Independently performs bioinformatics data analyses, including database querying, sequence alignment and assembly, analysis of genetic variations, phylogenetic and comparative genomic analysis, gene prediction and protein function analysis, biological pathway analysis, classifying disease subtypes, modeling and validating pathogenic mechanisms, pattern recognition and machine learning.
·  For all cases below, is responsible for eliciting customer needs, setting timelines and implementing projects, and assisting with interpretation of results.
·  Implements and evaluates under new analytical methods on internal data.
·  Develops new data interpretation and extraction methods applicable to proprietary technology platforms (such as chips, strips, and PCR instruments). Develops, tests, and deploys small RUO client tools and web applications, especially for data access, management, and custom analyses.
·  Understands bioinformatics tools used in research, including sequence analysis programs, web applications, and open source RUO tools, and is capable of supporting or directing support requests.
·  Supports data management and access solutions.
·  Capable of rapidly developing scripts and simple databases to support research studies.
·  Able to retrieve data from public sources and integrate with internal stores.
·  Presents findings or comprehensive project status reviews at internal seminars/meetings.
·  Serves as an expert resource to other departments (e.g., Manufacturing/Operations, Quality, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Studies, and International Technical Services), provides timely response and follow-ups.
·  Participates in the expeditious transfer of products and technologies by providing scientific knowledge and assistance.
·  Provides technical advice/guidance to junior scientific staff, and serves as a role model.
·  May manage a project budget, but generally budget oversight belongs to a higher level manager.
·  Works on diverse problems requiring significant analysis and evaluation of intangible variables; may refer to established precedents and policies.
·  Represents RMD as primary contact on projects.
·  Interacts with senior personnel from other RMD departments or Roche companies on significant matters often requiring coordination between departments/organizations.
·  May lead project teams to solve business problems of moderate size risk and complexity.

Formal Training/Education:

·  Master's Degree MS plus typically 7-10 years related experience.
·  Ph.D. PhD plus typically 0 - 2 years related experience. Preferred

Knowledge, Skill or Ability:

·  Proficiency with C/C++ or Java; Perl or Python, SQL, HTML, XML, CSS in UNIX/Linux and Windows environment.

Travel: 5% based on business needs
