The Postdoc Human Disease Modeling for the Institute for Translational Bioengineering (ITB) supports the establishment of a newly formed scientific group in pRED (Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development) whose goal is to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process through innovation/big and bold ideas focused on advancing our ability to use more predictive human model systems.

The Postdoc will pursue a collaborative research project to engineer complex human organoid systems to model human development and disease, and explore these systems using novel, state-of-the-art single-cell phenotyping technologies. This is a rare opportunity to be involved in supporting the establishment and growth of a new and exciting Institute that brings together scientists and engineers from around the world.

The core tasks and responsibilities include the following

Independently drive a project to develop multilineage organoid systems for modeling complex human tissues.

· 
Collaborate with engineers and data scientists within the ITB to build accurate models of human physiology.

· 
Liaise with other ITB and pRED colleagues active in the field to find synergies and possibilities to collaborate.

· 
Generate high-quality results for peer-reviewed publications and present at scientific meetings.

· 
Writing and reviewing manuscripts for publication.

· 
Gaining knowledge of the pRED drug development process to understand where activities could be developed to disrupt the process

What you bring

· 
Ph.D. degree in cell or molecular biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, or related fields.

· 
Extensive experience with human cell culture, ideally including primary stem cells, 3D culture models, organoids, organ-on-a-chip technologies, single cell technologies, bioimaging, and molecular biology.

· 
Experience with multi-color microscopy and immune phenotyping by flow cytometry (>12 markers)

· 
Good understanding of stem cell and organoid biology and molecular biology is preferable.

· 
Proven track record (publications, patents) in conducting research, including designing, executing and interpreting experiments, as demonstrated by previous publications.

· 
Outstanding communication skills, strong passion and commitment
to science and work well within a group.

· 
Ability to prioritize, see the big picture and nevertheless focus on details

· 
Ability to work independently, quickly set up effective networks and working relationships

· 
Ability to work effectively with internal and external partners

The preferred start date is May 2021.
