The Postdoc Computational Biology for the Institute for Translational Bioengineering (ITB) supports the establishment of a newly formed scientific group in pRED (Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development) whose goal is to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process through innovation/big and bold ideas focused on advancing our ability to use more predictive human model systems.

The Postdoc will pursue a collaborative research project to integrate and analyze single-cell genomic, spatial transcriptomic, and high-content imaging data with the goal to develop in silico organoid models. This is a rare opportunity to be involved in supporting the establishment and growth of a new and exciting Institute that brings together scientists and engineers from around the world.

The core tasks and responsibilities include the following

Integrate single-cell sequencing and imaging data into computational models of human organ and organoid development.

Independently drive a project to develop multilineage organoid systems for modeling complex human tissues.

Collaborate with engineers and data scientists within the ITB to build accurate models of human physiology.

Liaise with other ITB and pRED colleagues active in the field to find synergies and possibilities to collaborate.

Generate high-quality results for peer-reviewed publications and present at scientific meetings.

Writing and reviewing manuscripts for publication.

Gaining knowledge of the pRED drug development process to understand where activities could be developed to disrupt the process

What you bring

Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, data science, physics, math or related field.

Extensive experience with single-cell genomic data analysis and/or analysis of high-dimensional imaging data from spatial transcriptomics, multiplexed immunohistochemistry, or light sheet microscopy.

Expert knowledge or R, Python, Bash, and other relevant programming languages.

Good understanding of stem cell and organoid biology and molecular biology is preferable.

Proven track record (publications, patents) in conducting research, including designing, executing and interpreting experiments, as demonstrated by previous publications.

Outstanding communication skills, strong passion and commitment to science and work well within a group.

Ability to prioritize, see the big picture and nevertheless focus on details

Ability to work independently, quickly set up effective networks and working relationships

Ability to work effectively with internal and external partners

The preferred start date is May 2021.
