Group Safety, Security, Health and Environmental Protection (SHE), North American (NA) supports Group SHE, LS which has global responsibility for safety, security, health and environmental protection at all sites and companies in Roche's Diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals Divisions. Group SHE, NA's primary role is to assure that all sites and companies in Roche's Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics divisions appropriately identify, manage and reduce their SHE-related risks. Group SHE, NA fulfills this role by implementing programs and projects within five key areas: Building Awareness; Motivating; Educating/Informing/Consulting; Auditing; and Reporting/Benchmarking. We are currently recruiting interns for specific projects at our Little Falls, NJ location. The program provides a unique experience within a corporate SHE organization, where you will help support ongoing departmental objectives. You will gain an overview of corporate SHE functions and how to influence change within an organization.

Candidates applying for the intern positions should be passionate about improving safety, health and environmental protection and thoroughly enjoy the challenges associated with complex problem-solving. Candidates must be highly self-motivated and willing to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams. Applicants should be college level junior or higher, preferably specialized advanced degree candidates. Desired majors include those related to safety engineering, public health, environmental sciences or sustainability, especially those majoring in engineering, sustainability science, occupational and public health.

Strong working skills with office products (i.e. ms word, excel, power point), as well as, effective communication and delivery of presentations.

Required Information: Candidates must submit a cover letter selecting one of the three listed projects that they would prefer to work on and briefly explain why they would be passionate about that particular project. Please provide a statement about your background and interests in fulfilling one of our open project positions. We are recruiting interns for the following project scopes:

Project 1: Group SHE Risk Management Tools

Responsibilities:

·  Drive and support improvements to sites' SHE RM programs (including Risk Assessments) by establishing and sharing of standard/best practices, completed common K-9s, and common tools/data,
·  Develop an understanding of currently used RM & RA tools within Group SHE NA and their effectiveness.
·  Better Define and Promote the K9 Scoping and Prioritization Tool
·  K9 Sharing/Standardization – Common K9 Repository
·  K9 Tools - Software Development

Key Deliverables:Deliver an end of project presentation and documents detailing learnings and outcomes.

Qualifications:

SHE systems, risk management, compliance and safety course work

Interest in process improvement, metrics and data analytics for SHE aspects

Project 2: Group SHE Audit Project: Audit Software Analysis, Needs Assessment, Set Expectations and Requirements, then Benchmarking and Recommend Products

Responsibilities: As a Roche Group Safety, Security, Health, and Environment Protection (SHE) audit process improvement effort, lead a project to review the current audit software and suggest future options based on needs assessment, expectations, and requirements that are developed and prioritized. A specific focus will be placed on:

·  Develop a detailed understanding of the current Marsh ClearSight, Enterprise SHE audit software/platform.
·  Conduct an audit software needs assessment.
·  Develop expectations and that are transformed into an audit software user requirements document.
·  Benchmark audit software options against the user requirements, rank the software, then provide a purchase recommendation.

Key Deliverables:Deliver an end of project presentation and documents detailing learnings and outcomes.

Qualifications:

SHE information systems, auditing, compliance and safety course work

Interest in metrics and data analytics for SHE aspects

Project 3 – Group SHE Leadership and Professional Development:

Responsibilities: Participate on a project to identify various options for SHE specific leadership training and professional development opportunities in the field of Safety, Security, Health, and Environment Protection (SHE).

·  Develop an understanding of currently used leadership coaching and professional development programs or tools and summarize their effectiveness.
·  Identify best available, effective internal and external leadership and professional development opportunity within the SHE profession.
·  Present options for creation and sustaining a Group SHE Leadership and Professional Development program and propose a solutions to Leadership Team for implementation.

Key Deliverables:Deliver an end of project presentation and details of learnings and outcomes.

Qualifications:

SHE leadership and safety management, coaching and team building,compliance and SHE course work

Interest in SHE management and leadership aspects

·  Enrolled in junior year or higher at a college/university or any year at a graduate school

·  Preferred disciplines: environmental, health, and safety or related discipline, chemical and biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering, bioengineering, pharmaceutical engineering, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biology, or related life sciences/engineering field

·  Demonstrated high level of scholastic achievement

·  Relevant work experience in pharmaceutical or diagnostic manufacturing and research operations or the biotechnology industry is highly desirable

·  Strong organizational skills
