This position is part of the Internship programme Think Tank in Innovation and Sustainability (#IP2TIS). Innovation is key for Roche and our society in general. With this programme we want to provide you as an early in career talent the opportunity to work and experiment on innovative ideas in a safe and supportive environment. This position will include an exclusive curriculum of on-the-job and off-the-job training, as well as sessions with Roche senior leaders.
We are looking for a collaborative and inspiring individual to join our diverse, interdisciplinary and international Global Diagnostics User Experience Team (DIA UX) of 50 designers.
The DIA UX team is supporting all business areas with three main capabilities: user and customer insights (research), product & service design and industrial, digital design (incl. design systems) guidelines & best practices to accelerate customer experience. Consequently, our fields of expertise are: end-to-end development of medical devices, prioritisation and acquisition of portfolios and partnerships and last but not least digital solutions for clinical decisions support.
You would support DIA UX and its industrial design experts to act as an interface between the department, the different projects and the eco-development team and bring in more insights on this topic and how to apply it.
You will help us have a broden view of the new innovative and more sustainable materials and technologies that are existing and the ones that are already used in different industries. Therefore, you will also help us to see how we could enable a technology transfer from other domains to our medical environment. New materials might have an impact in the manufacturing process. With the internship you would investigate how these new materials affect our processes/machines/suppliers. New tools and devices might also become more relevant such as 3D printers. Therefore, the main focus areas will be around product packaging, product manufacturing, surface treatment and product development and design methods. Some examples of the planned activities during the internship:
Benchmark sustainability strategy support
Sustainable material research and selection
Process analysis and selection
At the end of the internship you will be able to understand what are the dynamics in such an organisation like Roche when it comes to sustainable product design and development through the lens of projects, strategic decisions and political aspects and benefit from a forward view on how we can change without losing any advantage toward our competition and be a leader in this field. Together we will be able to make better and more sustainable decisions for the future and strongly support the Roche 10 years ambitions plan.

Using the fresh and innovative ideas/knowledge from universities
You are currently enrolled as a student or have recently graduated (within the last 12 months) in Industrial or Product Design, Process or Mechanical Engineering or comparable education
Some first experience in Industrial Design processes such as design, manufacturing and color & material and lifecycle analysis LCA (e.g.: Simapro or similar).
You have basic knowledge of and big interest in UX design
(Desktop) research doesn't scare you as presenting on a regular basis in front of other designers or internal stakeholders.
Strong team player mindset and a good sense of humor.
You are fluent in English. German is a plus.
