Job description

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

This individual will be a member of the Engineering organization at Oracle+Dyn supporting mission critical systems. They will function primarily as a development resource but will also assist in troubleshooting operational issues as-needed. Day-to-day activities will range from participating in Agile Scrum/KANBAN, application design, troubleshooting and solution development. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and possess a wide range of skills and experience, from strong understanding of the networking stack to building highly fault-tolerant services. As an engineer, this individual should have the ability to understand complex problems and strike a good balance between business goals and technical implementations.

Major Duties:
·  Implement and support Oracle + Dyn DNS systems, including tooling and automation
·  Assist in the design and ongoing improvement of existing and new DNS architecture and applications
·  Perform troubleshooting and coordinate problem resolution with support teams
·  Establish and maintain productive relationships with peer service teams
·  Participation in 24/7 on-call rotation
·  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
·  Demonstrated ability to deliver the items listed in the major duties section
·  At least 3 years experience with Unix-like OS, such as Ubuntu or FreeBSD
·  At least 4 years experience in application development
·  Expertise with a multiple programing language, including a selection of perl, python or Go
·  Demonstrable knowledge of distributed system fundamentals: networking, concurrency, high availability, load balancing, and graceful degradation
·  Can clearly document and explain concepts to technical audiences
·  Demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries and within groups
·  Should be a flexible and resourceful team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
·  Creative thinking and critical analysis are essential

Desired Experience:
·  Deploying and administrating nameservers, such as BIND
·  Architectural, development, and operational concerns of cross-datacenter applications
·  Knowledge of administering web facing application servers such as Apache or NGINX
·  Using configuration management tools like Docker, Terraform, Chef, Ansible, etc.
·  Knowledge of Internet protocols and standards, specifically DNS
