Job description

SHIFT: First Shift (8 am - 4 pm)

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Builds, test, packages pre-terminated multi-fiber assemblies, pigtails, and jumpers

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

LINE: Reports to Assembly Supervisor / Engineer

STAFF: Interfaces with Manufacturing, Shipping, Engineering

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Perform the tasks necessary to build assemblies, including cable preparation, connecting, polishing, inspecting, testing and packaging.
· Read and understand engineering drawings that specify assembly dimensions and requirements.
· Ensure assemblies meet specific visual, physical, and optical criteria, and provide test reports.
· Become familiar with multiple types of cable and connectors as well as specific termination concepts such as polarity.
· Understand how connector termination and processing steps affect optical performance.
· Determine and implement rework steps in event of failures throughout the process.
· Work and communicate daily with teammates to ensure orders are completed on time.
· Must keep equipment and area clean and organized.
· Additional responsibilities as required by Department Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

· High School Diploma is required.
· Previous experience in fiber optic cable manufacturing, optical testing preferred.
· Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language (i.e., the language of all plant directives) for required document control and supervisor/peer instructions.
· Demonstrated ability to work with small components.
· Demonstrated ability to distinguish color effectively on small components.
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others to achieve a desired outcome.
· Must understand and comply with all policies and procedures of Berk-Tek. This refers to attendance, breaks, conduct, and so forth.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, and squat for extended periods of time.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 10 lbs. frequently. Assemblies on spools will need to be lifted from the floor onto 36' carts. These same spools will also need to be placed into boxes for shipping.
· Must have the ability to ask questions and disseminate information clearly; visually identify materials on sight as well as distinguish color correctly; ability to sense chemical odors; ability or alternative aid necessary to hear instructions, machinery, tow-motor audible signals

Pre-employment requirements include passing a physical and drug test.
