Responsibilities

WNBC is NBC Universal's flagship station. The Director of News Operations is a critical part of the Operations team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a track record in managing high quality newsgathering operations: Photographers, fleet, budgets and associated technologies, specifically within a 24/7 news station. The ideal candidate will bring a vision and strategy that focusses on teamwork and production excellence including enhancing storytelling, photography, editing skills and techniques.

Responsibilities:
·  Lead our photographers and field support team with winning and breaking news vision and strategy.
·  Ensure high quality production (shooting, editing, NPPA) and on-air look.
·  Critique, group critique and train of our photographers.
·  Develop and upgrade SOPs.
·  Support daily news operation as well as events planning.
·  Watch all shows. Give real time feedback to our photographer team.
·  Coordinate with the Assignment Desk, Newsroom and reporters.
·  Improve workflow & recommend new technologies to enhance our competitiveness & speed.
·  Troubleshoot photographer equipment issues.
·  Forge and foster collaborative relationships with the various teams at WNBC.
·  Oversee the scheduling of photographers and fleet vehicles.
·  Utilize an in-depth understanding of newsgathering technologies: Bonded Cellular, editing technologies, (AVID desirable), Microwave, Panasonic P2 workflow, and internet technologies.
·  Responsible for the management and maintenance of our fleet of vehicles.
·  Manage and negotiate with vendors.
·  Work closely with VP on operational and capital budgets.
·  Assess all risk management issues, additions and changes in order to mitigate impact to newsgathering teams and equipment.
·  Comply with all company Environmental Health & Safety and regulatory guidelines.

 Equivalent experience or Degree, preferably in TV Production, or related field.
 Minimum 10 years as a photographer.
 Minimum 3 years as a Chief Photographer.
 Minimum 3 years of News Operations management.
 Managing a union represented workforce.
 On Call 24/7/365.
 Extensive experience in newsgathering, working with newsrooms and dealing with the demands of the editorial teams.
 In depth understanding of the New York / New Jersey market.
 In depth knowledge of existing and evolving newsgathering technologies.
 Exceptional Interpersonal & communication skills with ability to interface with all levels of management & user community.
