Trainee Air Traffic Controllers

With up to 55 aircraft movements per hour, our Gatwick Trainee Air Traffic Controllers must possess excellent concentration, reasoning, spatial awareness and multi-tasking abilities to successfully learn the skill to become a high performing Controller in a dynamic company with the scope to develop a fantastic career in Air Traffic Control.

Training Academy

Your first 6 months of training with ANS will be based in Langen, nr Frankfurt, Germany at the training academy learning the fundamental skills you require as an Air Traffic Controller.Subjects include: Aviation Law, Radio Telephony and Meteorology , after which you will spend the next couple of years working alongside experienced Air Traffic Controllers to complete your training.

The Job

As a controller you'll be responsible for providing a safe, orderly and expeditious service to the aircraft.There are 3 working positions at Gatwick – Tower, Ground and Delivery.You will be trained to work on all 3 positions and will move between them during a shift.

Tower– the controller in this position looks after the runway.They issue the take-off and landing clearances and ensure it's safe to use the runway, whilst utilising it to its maximum capabilities.

Ground– the controller in this position looks after aircraft pushing back from the stands and aircraft vehicles moving around the airfield.The ground controller must identify conflictions in traffic and ensure that aircraft can route safely around the airfield.

Delivery– The controller in this position issues aircraft with their initial departure routing clearance as well as managing outbound traffic levels.

Next steps

We're undertaking assessment tests between 18 - 21 February 2019 based at Gatwick. Participants are tested in groups of 30 and assessments include concentration, mental reasoning, memory and spatial abilities and multiple task performance.Those who successfully complete the tests, will be invited to attend a simulation test and interview.Successful applicants must be available to join ANS on 24 April or 17 July 2019 or alternatively 2020.

To be eligible to apply you must

·  be educated to A level or degree level or an equivalent standard, ideally in either a science, maths or IT related subject
·  have at least 5 GCSEs or an equivalent standard at grade C/4 or above, to include English and Maths
·  be eligible to work in the United Kingdom
·  be in good health as you will need to pass a Class 3 medical (as required by the CAA)
·  have a clean driving licence (airside driving may be required)

If you have airport or aviation experience this is advantageous, but not essential.
