Purpose of Role

This position is responsible for executing projects for the Mars Petcare Wet Petfood Platform focused on product formats across both Cat and Dog products. Performs engineering assignments as part of a work team involved in the planning, organizing, and developing new-technology and innovation as it relates to the Pet Business Unit. Requires ability to use and apply extensive knowledge of many engineering disciplines to execute small to large projects and process improvements aligned with the overall Business Unit strategy. Significant collaboration is expected with all scientists and engineers in the Product and Packaging areas, the wet manufacturing sites, Pilot Plant management, Quality Services and Engineering.

Principal Accountabilities

·  Initiate test plan development, experimental setup, test execution and data analysis to quantify key process and packaging machine parameters and fundamental mechanisms at both pilot and factory scale
·  Deliver scalable process specifications collaboratively developed with Product Development and Supply Engineering to achieve exceptional product attribute targets and ensure superior product quality and food safety.
·  Identify and evaluate innovative processing options based on product attribute requirements including evaluation based on technical and economic feasibility.
·  Provide technical support to product development, QS and Supply on new or existing processes
·  Build/maintain networks within the Technology, Product Implementation, Packaging, Engineering, QS and Platform Technology teams
·  Lead translation of technology ideas into visual, physical models and working prototypes
·  Provide scalable technology platforms within the business strategy
·  Delivery of IP for technical insulation of new technology
·  Apply Lean Thinking principles and Value Added Engineering
·  Work as part of the engineering team to assist in the management of scale-up risk and introduction of technology into supply chain
·  Develop and manage capital projects to install factory scale-able equipment into the pilot plant and

·  Strong engineering fundamentals and familiarity with experimental design and statistical data analysis.
·  Proven project planning and management skills.

·  Communicator with SBUs, region, and global Process technology network; also, academic, commercial, and external expertise.
·  Working knowledge of process development and industry best practices, packaging science, consumer needs/trends, and potential relevant technologies.
·  Demonstrated process development and project management abilities.
·  Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, experimental design software, and understand engineering drawings (e.g. AutoCAD).

Minimum Qualifications

·  Bachelor’s Degree
·  Minimum of 3 years’ experience within R&D or Engineering field
·  Previous experience in a CPG environment
·  Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
·  Successful completion of a drug and background screen

Preferred Qualifications

·  5 years in R&D or Engineering development.
·  Multi-site working experience.
·  Proven creative, value-added, results producer.
·  Master’s/PH.D. in Chemical, Food or Mechanical Engineering.
·  Assessment of pilot plant scalability
