Job Description
Positions Overview:
This key technical position will provide support to the LYC Pilot Lab based in Cedar Rapids. It will consist in running studies and/or continuous improvement projects in the fermentation, fresh yeast, dry and/or nutritional yeast for our American plants and different Business Units.
This position will receive work direction or assignments from the Pilot Lab Manager but may also be given work direction from other management personnel as required by company needs
Main responsibilities:
Duties may be assigned depending upon operational needs
- Participate in or Lead specific studies directed at helping continuous manufacturing improvement and/or
- production process optimization for the production plants.
- Participate in troubleshooting production process issues as required.
- Participate in developing new protocols, key manufacturing performance strategies and reports.
- Participate in plant expansion efforts by reviewing Process P&ID’s and acting as a direct contact with the Engineering Group.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
A degree in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Manufacturing along with two to three years’ experience required.
Language:
English is required for success in this position
Skills:
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factors.
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks.
- Communication and “customer” service skills are required in relationships with coworkers, management, and other departments within the company.
- Mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills.
- Ability to write detailed technical reports;
- Computer proficiency required.

The VIE will start with a group onboarding at Lesaffre headquarters in France, followed by a local onboarding in the assigned country.
Travel:
The company covers the cost of a round-trip ticket (economy class) to VIE home country per each 12-month assignment
