The Role

Summary of Role Purpose:

KPMG's Tax practice is a dynamic and successful area of our business. A constantly changing and increasingly high-profile field, Tax can offer a surprisingly broad range of quality career paths.

The Compliance & Transformation area within the Tax practice is one of the fastest growing areas and is widely considered the market leader in this area both within the UK and internationally. The C&T team is focused on managing the compliance aspects for large clients including:

Managing tax and statutory compliance/reporting outsourcing work on a regional/global basis; and consulting on tax processes and technology aspects.

Following high profile client wins, our Birmingham C&T team now has a vacancy for an Assistant Manager.

Description of the role:

The C&T team currently services a number of large, multi-national groups in the FTSE 100/250 or overseas equivalents (e.g. Fortune 500). This includes the following sectors: Aerospace and Defence; Automotive, Industrial Manufacturing; Chemical; Pharmaceuticals; Food, Drink; Tobacco; Retail; Consumer Products; Oil & Gas; Mining and Utilities; Media etc.

Leadership & Management:

This person will be responsible for supporting the delivery of work on the above types of projects working with multiple stakeholders and teams across Tax and Finance (at both the client and KPMG). In addition, this person will also play a key role in supporting the winning of new work by supporting proposals and joining senior managers and partners in discussions with targets and clients.

Stakeholder Interaction & challenges:

-Project managing the delivery of global and UK large corporate outsourcing projects;
-Supporting process/technology consulting projects covering a range of areas (e.g. process improvements/mapping etc);
-Contributing to sales activities by supporting proposals and other targeting meetings;
-Establishing and maintaining strong client relationships with both existing and new clients; and
-Working with more senior members of the team to generate additional work opportunities.

Impact, Risk, Accountability & Governance:

The successful candidate must have experience of compliance and reporting, and risk and controls areas gained in another UK situated Big 4 tax compliance team.

The successful applicant ideally would be a qualified accountant or qualified tax professional

Expertise / Technical role requirements

-Project management/co-ordination skills and experience (e.g. on other global compliance outsourcing engagements).
-Strong organisational skills to manage large and complex projects/programmes and ability to interact with different stakeholders at all levels.
-A consulting mind-set which allows for innovative thinking in the area of compliance consulting.

Skills:

-Awareness of how tax interacts with accounting systems although specialist technology knowledge is not required.
-Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication skills. Communicates with impact, in a way that is open, honest, consistent and clear. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for own work.
-Sustains a high level of drive, shows enthusiasm and a positive attitude when coping with pressure at work.
Analyses problems, identifies core issues, investigates, evaluates and integrates information.
Builds the reputation of KPMG through the quality of work, knowledge and experience.
