Job Description

Overview

KPMG's Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance Services (IARCS) practice has an opportunity for a draw adjudicator based in the Watford/Iver Heath area. The role will be particularly attractive to those who are seeking a challenging and interesting role on a part-time basis (evening work). The successful candidate will have a professional qualification and be a member of a professional body.

The role

KPMG has provided the National Lottery adjudication service since 2015. From March 2019, the introduction of a new draw will increase the number of nights a week on which our service needs to operate, from 4 to 6. We are therefore looking to expand our team of adjudicators to meet this additional demand.
We require an individual to join our existing team of National Lottery adjudicators, carrying out the activities required in that role. This role requires a high standard of delivery and close attention to detail which are fundamental to the service being provided successfully.

We are seeking someone to work on a part-time basis for two evenings per week (approx 6pm – 10pm) and to be available on a further two evenings in a backup capacity as part of the operational resilience plan. The role is offered initially offered on a 1 year fixed term contract.

Responsibilities:

- This service requires KPMG to provide individuals to adjudicate the National Lottery activities on 4 nights per week (6 from March 2019).
- The adjudicator is required to carry out a specific programme of activities to confirm that the draw procedures have been followed correctly to verify that the draw is random and valid and that the draw and prize information released by Camelot is accurate.
- Location: The draws are carried out at Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, with the back-up site in Watford. The successful candidate will live within a 1 hour drive to both locations and have access to their own car as transport to and from the draw.
- Pay rate: The adjudicator is paid on a piecemeal rate for each draw attended. The rate for attending a draw will be £150 for draws on Monday to Friday and £250 for draws on Saturdays and Bank Holidays and expenses in line with normal KPMG policy.
- Hours of work: The adjudicator is required to be on site at the draw location by 6pm on the day of the draw and remain until the draw is completed. The work is usually completed by 10pm, but may run later should any issues arise.
- Regularity of attendances: The draws occur on 6 evenings of the week (from Monday – Saturday). The role is to attend the draw for 2 evenings a week – with the specific evenings varying from week to week, and act as backup for a further two evenings a week, again with these varying from week to week. Notice of which evenings the adjudicator is required is given at least 3 months in advance and with input from the adjudicator.
- Additional hours: There will be the occasional requirement to attend training sessions within KPMG’s normal office hours (9am – 5pm Monday to Friday, in person in either the KPMG or Camelot offices in Watford, or via call). Sessions will last between 30 minutes and 3 hours at a time. These hours will be remunerated at an hourly rate, to be agreed on appointment. At least 2 weeks’ notice will be given of any requirement to attend training sessions in person.

The Person:

The successful candidate will:

- Live/Be within 1 hour’s travel of Pinewood Studios and Watford on the nights due to be on the rota as either principal or back up.
- Have own car to travel to and from the draw site.
- Have a professional qualification, and be a member of a professional body. An accounting or auditing background is preferred but not essential.
- The successful candidate and any immediate family living within their household will be prohibited from purchasing or playing any National Lottery games (including scratchcards) for the duration of their involvement as an adjudicator.
- The successful candidate must agree to the project management team holding personal details including address and phone number.
- Demonstrate advanced levels in Microsoft Office applications of Word, Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrate exceptional organisational skills.
- Possess an eye for detail.
- Demonstrate an ability to adapt to changing demands and conditions.
- Be a team player within both KPMG and the client’s operational team.
- Have strong interpersonal skills.
- Be flexible in terms of working hours.
- Be able to deal discreetly with sensitive client information and issues.
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate a commitment to deliver a first class quality service at all times.
- Present a professional image.
