Job description

Kuehne + Nagel is seeking to employ a Customs Entry Clerk based in Longmeadow. The successful candidate will be tasked to ensure the smooth and streamlined operation of the Customs process with major focus on the reliability and cost efficiency of the Customs operational procedures.



Your tasks and responsibilities

·  Ensuring the Company has all the updated Customs regulations applicable for the Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare industry, in order to update or inform all other Business Unit Managers on handling operations with a view to identifying, presenting solutions and resolving shipments under query.
·  Ensuring the Customs Brokerage department complies with the Company's GXP policy, Manual Pharma P94, while handling Customs aspects of the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare shipments.
·  Obtaining the relevant documents for processing from Controllers.
·  Accurately determining tariff headings and challenge tariff headings provided by client or those on the library, for accuracy.
·  Analysing documents for accuracy and notifying the Channel Controller if additional information is required.
·  Checking for EUR1, declaration on commercial invoice, SADC and permits.
·  Framing the Bill of entry on Compu-Clearing.
·  Ensuring that the correct product codes and/or tariff headings are loaded on CCL.
·  Ensuring that the correct tariff headings and/or duties are applied.
·  Quality checking of Bill of entries and ensure that entries are cross checked by 2 other Entry Clerks and vice versa.
·  Submitting entries to Customs via EDI.
·  Monitoring the progress of the shipment until it's released.
·  Attending to stopped or detained shipments; identifying issues, presenting solutions and ensuring resolution.
·  Arranging Customs examinations as required.
·  Issuing of VOC's as required.
·  Assisting with the liquidation of provisional payments as required.
·  Using A-Z on W-drive for assistance on shipments.
·  Handling Customs queries.
·  Submitting Bill of entries within 8 working hours of receipt and special shipments within 2 working hours.
·  Following up on queries to channels on regular basis.
·  Keeping up to date with changes within Customs.
·  Ensuring that all office records are kept up to date. Adherence to relevant KN policies and guidelines.

Your skills and experience

·  Matric Certificate (Grade 12) or relevant NQF related qualification is essential.
·  A minimum of 3- 5 years' experience within a Airfreight department focused on the independent handling of Customs activities.
·  A good command of the English language (both written and spoken) is essential.
·  Basic knowledge of MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook and Compu-Clearing) is essential.
·  Good Customs knowledge in the South African environment is essential.
·  Tariff knowledge and exposure is essential.
·  Well organised and ability to work independently.
·  Meticulous attention to detail.
·  Analytical ability and proven problem solving skills in a similar environment.
·  Proven ability to prioritise responsibility and work under pressure.
