For our department we are currently seeking for a fulltimeScientist Downstream Processing group (m/f)Location: LeidenHours: 40Department:The ‘Down Stream Processing’ (DSP) department develops processes for purifying, inactivating and formulating (recombinant) viruses. Novel technologies are used to make sure that the processes are cost-effective, so that the vaccines can be produced in large quantities at low costs. These processes must be safe, reliable and scalable. They are transferred to a GMP production facility for the production of clinical batches and scaled-up for commercial production. There is a strong interaction with Upstream development, Analytical development, Formulation development, Pilot scale and Large scale GMP facilitiesJob description:The scientist will be responsible for the development of robust processes based on solid scientific research. Furthermore, you give input to project plans with clear milestones and timelines. You have an interest in IP, have business awareness and align with other departments. We are looking for a motivated scientist who is curious, likes teamwork and can translate innovative technologies into reliable processes.
Typical activities include:
- Design of new processes or optimizing existing processes,
- Planning, performing and reporting process development studies
- Keep up to date with the newest developments in the field and implement novel technologies
- Translate research goals into action and accomplish the research target(s)
- Create intellectual property
- Managing of a team of techniciansQualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Curious mindset
- Experience with chromatography, centrifugation and/or filtration systems
- Degree in relevant discipline, such as biochemistry, biotechnology
- PhD with experience in research project design
- Scientific skills (knowledge, accuracy, autonomy, etc)
- Communication skills
- Experience with vaccine development and pharmaceutical development is an advantageCompetences:The successful candidate has a flexible work attitude and a can-do mentality. Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team are equally important as independent planning and execution of tasks.
