WHAT TO EXPECT

When it comes to the future, our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team is planning it today. Regularly working up to three years ahead of production. From concept to launch,  Dimensional Control Build Integrity (DCBI) Strategy and Media, through the use of ‘Best in Class’ technologies, tools and techniques, define and implement Jaguar Land Rover’s dimensional strategy across our manufacturing facilities. Ensuring product and process compatibility and delivering world class body accuracy in body construction.  DCBI Strategy and Media are responsible for defining the dimensional strategy, manufacturing feasibility through virtual build, ensuring the design is dimensionally robust and driving dimensionally optimized, feasible designs into manufacturing systems and processes. This is achieved by defining how the car is located, assembled and measured, analysing dimensional variation in manufacturing assemblies and ensuring the correct tools and media are in place to support.

The Global Manufacturing Innovation (GMI) is a new role within DCBI whose purpose is to deliver innovative, cutting edge manufacturing technologies and processes required to address “High Hurts”, new product features, improved manufacturing efficiencies and ensuring Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing is informed and prepared for the company’s future manufacturing needs. The Manufacturing Innovation role will be focussed on driving and delivering a World Class Manufacturing approach

As the GMI Project Engineer, you’ll play a significant role in shaping the future of the GMI team by creating and developing systems to amplify innovation across Manufacturing. Working with the GMI team you’ll be focused on developing future roadmaps and technologies that are beyond the existing manufacturing technologies known and applied by Jaguar Land Rover or our suppliers today with the remit of making step changes in Global Manufacturing.

Manufacturing Innovation projects will be owned and managed by the Process Technology Teams (PTT’s) within Manufacturing e.g. DCBI, Body in White, Vehicle Assembly and Powertrain.  You’ll give strong support and guidance to the PTT’s in identifying appropriate subjects, structuring projects and ensuring they pass through robust project gateways from Tooling Kick Off (TKO) to Implementation Readiness (IR).  You’ll also play a key part in supporting the PTT’s to identify and win public funding for manufacturing innovation projects.  Cross functional liaison is essential with the position being the manufacturing focal point for any manufacturing function that needs an innovative technical solution to an issue. Liaison with external bodies (Universities, Suppliers, OEM’s etc) is also very important and you’ll be expected to create a network of contacts that can be fully leveraged to provide research projects which deliver solutions to technical issues.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

This is a significant opportunity to have a key and influential role in the creation and development for DCBI future strategies and as such you’ll be an individual that will thrive on this exciting challenge. You’ll need to be passionate about developing this role; seeking new challenges and demonstrating an enthusiasm about the future of the automotive world. You’ll be eager to research future technologies and keen to understand how we will grow and embrace the changes that new methods will bring.  You’ll naturally have a creative and innovative mind, along with being a driven and proactive person. It is crucial that you have great communication skills and an ability to build relationships across networks and with stakeholders of all levels, having an engaging, motivating and collaborative approach.

The skills and experience that you bring to this role will demonstrate a good level of knowledge of manufacturing technologies and processes, along with ideally knowledge of vehicle technology.  You’ll have had previous experience of future manufacturing insight and benchmarking and it is essential that you have strong research and analytical skills.  Ideally you’ll have had experience of program or project management, meeting demanding timescales with budget control and cost effective delivery.  It’s also a must that you are computer literate in Google, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Microsoft Project.

You’ll be degree level qualified in a relevant discipline or have equivalent experience and it would be beneficial to have experience of Technology Creation Delivery System (TCDS) and Product Creation Delivery System (PCDS

The role will require regular inter-site travel, therefore it is expected that candidates have a flexible approach to working.
