PROJECT: Power Electronics Development

LOCATION: University of Warwick, Warwickshire

DURATION: 6 Month Placement

SALARY: £15,600

PLEASE NOTE:

This project is offered to those who are pursuing a postgraduate degree (at least MSc or equivalent) as a part of the Research Postgraduate Placement Scheme. All placements are offered on a fixed term contract and must complete within twelve months, or sooner if specified in the start and completion information as part of this specification. You will agree with your manager on a suitable start and finish time and project objectives aligned with your technical interests and business needs. Students must already have a Right to Work in the UK visa for the complete duration of the placement, and be able to undertake 40 hours per week, each week, for the duration of the project.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The electrification and drive transfer team within powertrain research is in charge of delivering new technology based on innovative concepts, proven through demonstrator vehicles. The focus of the team is on electric drive units as systems, eMachines technology, power electronics technology, battery hardware and chemistry.  We are looking to recruit a Postgraduate Engineer to support our research projects.

The main objective of this project is to understand the implications of a switch reluctance control from an inverter point of view with the emphasis being on efficiency and switching strategy.

In this project Power Electronics Development, you will deliver an inverter operation controls for switch reluctance rom which we can derive efficiency metrics (kWh/km consumed on specific cycles)

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

The prime requirement for participation in this project is to be pursuing a postgraduate degree in electrical engineering. It is just as important that you’ll have good appreciation of modelling techniques as well as an understanding of electric vehicles propulsion / batteries system layout. You’ll also be expected to have an awareness of energy management principles and controls engineering.

Though not essential it is desirable that you’ll have previous experience with Power electronics or eMachines

 

A resilient self-starter with the ability to resolve technical challenges with limited guidance, you’ll be able to deliver results under pressure, whilst responding constructively to new ideas and inputs.
