Reporting to the BIW Maintenance Manager, the department is responsible for manufacturing Maintenance activities within Body Shops at our assembly plants. Your key responsibilities will involve the use of corporate systems including the Total Production Maintenance (TPM), ISO 14001, and overall Equipment Effectiveness. You’ll be expected to promote and adhere to Lean Manufacturing and Manufacturing Quality Operating Systems (MQOS) Principles which will include Problem solving, Kaizen and standardisation of Working principles. The role will give you exposure to the planning and Development of Production facility changes, including new model launches and continuous improvement projects. This will include applying company Controls and Standards specifications, as well as raising, justifying and delivering capital expenditure proposals.

You’ll be expected to apply problem solving techniques, such as 8D’s where required and lead or work as part of a team to overcome issues and implement changes. You’ll have the ability to train and develop others on new facilities and will involve supervision of a team, when required. Your day will consist of liaising with suppliers, OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and Contractors to ensure all safety systems adhere to current legislation. You’ll be seen as the subject matter expert for Body in White technical issues and be expected to research and understand facility operations in preparation for equipment recovery.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

As a Control Engineer your activities include Breakdown and technical support of equipment and systems, project creation and support, and will involve representing Maintenance in a staff role in key strategy meetings. This is an integral part of the job, and candidates need to be able to demonstrate strong teamwork, cross functional experience, leadership, clear direction, and excellent use of problem solving skills and techniques. You must be very technically aware, flexible and willing to work hours to suit and ideally hold a degree in a relevant discipline or have demonstrable experience in this industry.

You’ll need to have a recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering and have a proven track record in a maintenance role within a large scale production environment. A need to be able computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office applications is essential. You'll be working with Hydraulics, Robotics, Program Logic Controller (PLC), Inverters, Pneumatics, and inductive power systems is essential. A working knowledge of of Ethernet and wireless Control networking is also a key requirement for the role as you'll be expected to modify PLC code when required. The role operates with a high level of autonomously and so you’ll be expected to use your initiate to prioritise and liaise with other functions as required.
