Construction Facilities is an important department within Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) and is responsible for the development of new project proposals, design concepts, and programmes from strategic intent with controlled maturity throughout the entire project life cycle on our production facilities. Our team’s strength lies in their capability to complete any project type and the ability to deliver construction, engineering, and project management services across the full spectrum of Jaguar Land Rover’s construction and technology functions, ultimately aiming to provide world-class facilities.
As a Building and Civics Engineer, you’ll play a critical management, expertise, and stakeholder relationship role within the business. Although you’ll be based in West Midlands, it will be necessary for you to visit other UK sites from time to time attending key meetings so as to offer support, facilitate new process and standards embedment, and also monitor compliance, all the while ensuring contextual feedback and learning is absorbed back into business systems.  

In addition, you’ll plan and manage structural and civil engineering projects carried out on site across all Jaguar Land Rover production facilities. As well as meeting with stakeholders to establish a project brief and agree a method of works, you’ll also work towards establishing and maintaining expert relations with clients. By establishing a robust timing plan for individual packages of works, you’ll demonstrate how these will fit in around Jaguar Land Rover activities.  

Besides liaising with other functions to ensure that all necessary parties are notified of the works, you’ll control works on site through regular visits and audits. You’ll also represent the department at meetings, providing an educated opinion when required. Crucially, you’ll be controlling the finances on a project through initially negotiating with contractors during tendering and through regular financial reviews during a job. Furthermore, you’ll create tender packs and specifications (detailing work expected), the quality of the work, and the desired timing plans. At all times, your priority behind these activities should be to ensure that the work being completed will not affect the rate of quality of the cars being produced. 

Equally important, you’ll control safety on site through promoting a safety culture, which you’ll achieve by liaising with the contractors and by controlling pressure from external parties. In doing so, you’ll help to avoid and rectify conflict situations by maintaining a constant and fair pressure on all jobs under the area’s management.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have a strong background in civil and structural engineering along with a track record of delivering civil and structural engineering services and solutions to complex projects.  You’ll also need to have an appreciation of planning, building regulations, and finally environmental, health and safety, and general building legislation.

Owing to your strong project management experience, you’ll have sound knowledge of the methodologies behind managing complex projects, and your budget control experience will go hand in hand with your financial acumen.  It is crucial to this role that you’ll have the ability to lead and give technical direction to a diverse collaborative group. In this capacity, you’ll be expected to take a leading role in many forums, representing the interests of Manufacturing whilst balancing the requirements for product development, business profitability, and the delivery of solutions.
Furthermore, you’ll need to be degree-qualified and have experience working in a similar environment (ideally as a member of a recognised civil and structural engineering body/institution and being asbestos-awareness-trained).  An understanding of current demands and trends from the market within civil and structural engineering management will also be required. Finally, you’ll demonstrate a degree of assertiveness and confident negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. All that, paired with an awareness of the business environment, will ensure your success in this role.
