WHAT TO EXPECT

Using state-of-the-art facilities, you’ll provide the power behind our vehicles working in our Powertrain Engineering team. You'll find the ideal balance between performance and sustainability, while responding to the environmental issues that shape our industry.

Jaguar Land Rover has made a major investment in a new state-of-the-art engine testing facility to ensure future Powertrain development can take place and meet the business requirement to develop new and exciting products.

The Powertrain Technician will be responsible for conducting and delivering tests to fulfil customer requests. The tests will cover durability, mechanical development and engine control and calibration. You’ll understand the engine specific data acquisition equipment / systems being set up and tested, and their application, and will know about the testing and adjustment techniques, test equipment and methods, in adequate depth to provide a sound basis for carrying out the activities, correcting faults and ensuring that the system functions to the required specification.

Areas of specialism include, hydraulics, test equipment, instrumentation, sensors, hazardous voltage systems (HV)

Filling this role you’ll work on a shift system within a facility that runs 24/7. A period of overseas training is required which will last approximately 3- 4months and attendance is mandatory.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

You’ll have an Indentured Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 vocational qualification in Mechanical or Motor Vehicle Engineering with Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English, Maths and Science. In addition, you’ll demonstrate excellent knowledge of motor vehicle technology with an up-to-date knowledge of vehicle development, especially new engine types, hybrid and electronics.

You’ll have strong communication and practical skills with good manual dexterity and the ability to follow written and spoken instruction and able to interface well with cross functional teams.

As part of the role you’ll be required to spend a period of 3-4 months overseas carrying out specialist training and you’ll have a willingness to complete NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Engineering Manufacture.
