Job description

We are seeking full-time user researchers who want to shape great user experiences for industry-defining software products, cloud services and web applications as part of a product design team in the IBM Studios Böblingen, Germany.

What you will do

As part of a multi-disciplined product design team, you will articulate and envision the future of IBM's portfolio of software products.

As user researcher you are curious about people and their behavior. You are responsible for generative and evaluative research that uncover their needs and our opportunities. You build understanding and empathy for our users, craft personas, detail scenarios, influence our design strategy and gather iterative user feedback on designs.

Additional UX design tasks can include the creation of user flows, wireframes and UI prototypes that deliver delightful user experiences. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working alongside other design team members as well as interacting closely with offering managers and engineers in global teams.

·  You drive user research to provide actionable insights for product and business strategies and goals
·  Your findings gain insights that can be used to determine what people need from their tools and where we do not yet meet those needs
·  You conduct user research for product design that includes a variety of methods and artefacts like personas, interviews, surveys, experience maps, and devising new research methods when needed
·  You coordinate closely with market research to build deep understanding of product offerings and market opportunity
·  You execute low- and mid-fidelity wireframes and user flows that promote ease of use
·  You might additionally create interaction models and UI details that optimize the user experience
·  You cross-collaborate with teams, including design, offering management, engineering, sales, and marketing
·  You devise, track and measure research metrics to ensure progress on key deliverables and communicate progress to stakeholders
·  You help uncover the next big innovation in a product line

What we expect

Required
·  Bachelor's degree or higher in human–computer interaction, anthropology, psychology, sociology or a related field, or a comparable education or work experience
·  Strength in a particular research specialty: design strategy, generative and exploratory research, surveys, statistical modeling, analytics/visualization, etc.
·  Demonstrated abilities to use analytical techniques and your own judgment to prioritize design work
·  Skills to effectively communicate those results to other members of the design team and stakeholders
·  Passion for learning new technologies and understanding the needs of users across a wide range of technical abilities
·  Deep skills in in analytical thinking and problem solving
·  Deep understanding of usability and user-centered design practices
·  Passion for emerging technologies and hunger to innovate
·  Ability to work autonomously in a self-directed design team
·  A trustful and reliable nature with strong organizational skills
·  Sound understanding of visual design and front-end development
·  Fluent English and excellent, demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

Preferred
·  We welcome graduates as well as experienced people
·  3+ years of hands-on experience in conducting software product design research
·  Experience working in consultancies or other professional services organizations or corporations
·  Experience with a wide variety of design research methodologies, including both generative and evaluative research
·  Basic German
