The IBM Compiler development team, located at the IBM Toronto Lab in Markham Ontario, is looking for software developers with a passion for Python to join our mission in developing a world class offering on IBM platforms. The IBM Toronto Lab is the compilation technology hub within IBM, known for developing leading-edge compilers and runtimes. You will actively work with renowned experts to accelerate the Python language features and performance on IBM Z.

The main responsibilities of the team include:

- Enable the latest version of Python on IBM's Z Enterprise platform
- Optimize performance of python code
- Develop and deliver code features and improvements to the Python community.
- Collaborate with clients; business partners; and IBM product & technology areas situated across the globe on a regular basis.
- Participate in all aspects of the software development process, from design to implementation, from testing to product delivery and support
- Work in an agile software development environment

The job is located at the IBM Canada Software Lab in Markham Ontario, one of the largest Research and Development (R&D) facilities in Canada.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or Engineering
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
- Experience in open-source community development processes and tools
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- Fluent English is mandatory

Our compilers are at the cutting edge of compilation technology, and our developers have helped deliver language standard conformance and industry leading benchmark results. We produce compilers for a range of source languages optimized for IBM POWER systems and zSeries mainframes. Our experienced developers often contribute to the design of future IBM processors, the evolution of programming languages and many have acquired extensive patent portfolios.
