Your Role and Responsibilities
At IBM Quantum Software, we are looking for a software test engineer to join the system level test team. The ideal candidate is results-driven and can distill test results into software stack and process improvements. This software test engineer is responsible for executing test plans from a system level test suite and reporting detailed results. Additionally, this individual should also be able to gain a clear understanding of the IBM Quantum software stack and work closely with the reliability team to contribute to the overall health, reliability, and availability of this complex distributed software. The software test engineer works closely with the test architect and test automation developer to validate and improve the system level test suite and tools needed to achieve a robust high-quality product. The test engineer will also interact with the support team to understand the common patterns of failures and issues in the product and ensure the necessary test are defined to address such concerns.
To be successful as a test engineer, you should have a working knowledge of distributed systems, cloud native and modern software, test design, the capability to execute best of breed test plans, and the ability to report test results that produce needed software and process enhancements.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
· 3 or more years of experience with a software testing effort
· Strong technical abilities to understand a polyglot and distributed complex system.
· Experience executing a test suite and strategy for enabling testing culture across the stack and organization.
· Strong verbal and written communications skills to interact with software, support and reliability and operations teams to address gaps in quality, and to document pain point in processes, practices, and defect tracking.
· Experience with cloud monitoring tools and services such as databases to conduct validation, determine error conditions and collect logs to help the development team to build fixes.
· Knowledge of Python and Bash scripting to automate tasks.
· Past experience with open-source testing frameworks and tools to build test harnesses to facilitate system testing.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
· Knowledge of programming using Qiskit
· Knowledge of working with Cloud environments and services, specifically OpenShift
· Knowledge of a test and defect management tool, such as GitHub, Jira, Trello
