Job description



As a part of a multi-disciplined product design team, you will articulate and envision the future of IBM's portfolio of software products.

As a design researcher, you will help provide actionable and meaningful data-driven insights that represent the voice of multiple users. You will collaborate across development, design, and marketing teams to evaluative current and future user research needs that help to improve product definition and drive business goals. You will work in a fast-paced environment while applying both generative and evaluative research methods to build understanding and empathy for our users. You will be responsible for adhering to the Design Thinking process, crafting personas, assembling detailed user stories and scenarios, influencing design strategy, conducting stakeholder, and sponsor user interviews as well as tests.

Required technical and professional expertise
Relevant education or work-experience in human–computer interaction, anthropology, psychology, sociology, or comparable
Strength in a particular research specialty: design strategy, generative and exploratory research, surveys, statistical modeling, analytics/visualization, etc.
Demonstrated abilities to use analytical techniques and your own judgment to prioritize design work
Skills to effectively communicate those results to other members of the design team and stakeholders
Passion for learning new technologies and understanding the needs of users across a wide range of technical abilities
Deep skills in in analytical thinking and problem solving
Deep understanding of usability and user-centered design practices
Passion for emerging technologies and hunger to innovate
Ability to work autonomously in a self-directed design team
A trustful and reliable nature with strong organizational skills
Fluent English and excellent, demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
