Would you like to work on a meaningful Research project focused on the development of AI technologies to better understand health issues?
Are you pursuing a master's degree or doctorate in Computer Science or related areas? Have you developed technologies in areas of Machine Learning/Deep Learning/Causal Inference and alike? Are you interested in working in a diverse Research organization team who is located in Israel and has collaborations with other Research teams and Care organizations in the world?

We, at the AI in Healthcare department at IBM Research, are working on developing novel machine learning methods to analyze a wide variety of real data in the healthcare and life sciences domains. We have worked on enhancing early cancer detection and improving cancer treatment. We analyze information from medical images and the patient's medical records to help clinicians and radiologists make better decisions. We are studying from patients data on previously unknown indications of the drugs and more. (Add a link in the post to https://www.research.ibm.com/haifa/dept/vst/analytics.shtml).

We invite relevant candidates who are interested in a summer internship and in working on the below projects to apply to this positions:

(*) Developing predictive models based on retrospective clinical data, data from environmental and wearable sensors, data from social media and questionnaires. Models will be integrated with existing clinical practice guidelines and made available to oncologists to improve their decisions.

(*) We have gathered thousands of breast imaging exams (Mammography, 3D Mammography, MRI, Ultrasound) of patients and we are exploring several different applications to assist breast cancer screening, prognosis and treatment.

(*) We work in the integration of machine learning methodologies into the evolving field of causal inference. We aim to build reliable and generalizable causal inference models that can be used for decision support in multiple healthcare questions, using large datasets with hundreds of features. This requires theoretical innovations, as well as robust and scalable technological development. We apply such models do understand effect of drugs and treatments on various clinically-relevant outcomes. This requires a combination of knowledge in theoretical and applied computer science, statistics, and data-mining.
